Using the Cordon Bound Tool

A Tutorial for Source Engine

Welcome to another one of my tutorials. In this tutorial, I will teach you how to use the Cordon Bound Tool. What does it do? The Cordon Bound Tool allows you to cordon off certain parts of your map so you can compile and test only those parts. It decreases map compile time for testing and it is a very useful tool.
Let's get Started
  1. First of all, open up the map you want to use.
  2. Next, select the Edit Cordon Bound tool from the toolbar at the top of hammer.
  3. Now, select the area of your map that you want to cordon off. If there already is an area selected, you can edit the selection to move it to the area you want.
  4. Once you have the proper area selected, press the Toggle Cordon State button which is right beside the Edit Cordon Bound button.
  5. Once it's pressed, you should notice that everything except the area you selected is gone. That's the point of this, don't worry though, it's not really gone, it's just hidden so it's not being rendered.
  6. You can now compile your map and test it. Don't worry, if there weren't any leaks before you used the Cordon Bound then there shouldn't be any leaks now.
This tool is very useful, not only for compiling certain ares of your maps, but it also is good for when you're working on only one part of your map, you can cordon that part and get rid of the rest of the map so it isn't rendered and it doesn't cause Lag. Thank you for reading my tutorial, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to PM me or leave a comment.

Posted by SM Sith Lord 10/10, and ty very much. I knew it was possible to section off parts of your level for editing/compiling, but I never spent the time to figure out how to do it on my own. This is going to save me tons of time. I used to do a full recompile to test even small changes in very specific areas. Thanks again Sgt. Kick J00r Ass.
Heh, I used to be the same way until I discovered this tool.
