ASUS’s IntroductionBlack ASUS ROG G751JT-CH71 is a powerful 17.3 inch laptop with solid mobile gaming power with a Haswell Intel i7 and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M graphics (ROG stands for Republic of Gamers) that will let you play all games on ultra- can handle all games and usual tasks and will work quietly and stay cool at all times, has a great Full HD IPS screen with matte finish, sturdy build quality and superior overall performance and multitasking level of 16GB memory and of course the Intel i7 processor with speed up to 3.5 GHz. ASUS ROG G751JT is offered with the 4th generation quad core Intel Core i7-4710HQ at 2.5 GHz speed that moves up to 3.5GHz with turbo boost dynamically when the tasks at hand require it and four cores can handle eight threads in parallel, 16 GB DDR3 SDRAM at 1600 MHz for super efficient multitasking, 1000 GB SATA hard drive at 7200 rpm rotating speed and Windows 8.1operating system. ASUS TurboMaster technology allows 5% overlocking for even better gaming and you can just switch it off easily for the battery to last longer. Anything you throw at this system will be handled with ease- including the most demanding programs and games.
Generalized HardwareThere are plenty of connections on this machine allowing for a more broad use of its hardware:Two USB 3.0 ports, a VGA connector, three audio jacks, Ethernet, HDMI and even aThunderbolt port can be found on the machine's right edge. Two additional USB 3.0 connectors are arranged on the left side, as are the rig's optical drive (a Blu-ray burner) and SD/MMC card reader.
It is quite heavy, but getting a 17-inch screen on a laptop will do that. The dimensions are 16.4 x 12.5 x 1.7 inches (length, width and thickness) and a total weight of 8.5 pounds. While I can't fault a single inch of that frame for poor build quality, it is an admittedly (and unsurprisingly) cumbersome laptop.
Keyboard and PadThe keypad doesn’t look very user friendly, but in all reality it’s actually very useful once you spend some time with it. Since it is a gaming computer, it does outline the W/A/S/D, more room for your thumb on the spacebar to jump usually, and the assortment of customizable keys with a quick shortcut button directly to Steam. Steam and ASUS have their very own unique gaming center menu that some like and some don’t (would rather stick to what they are used to).
As far as the Pad goes, I, like many other users of this machine, couldn’t find anything wrong with the trackpad at all. The quality is actually set to your preference on how reactive it is to your fingers, the speed of the reaction, and has fine balance between tactile resistance and a soft landing depression. Using the trackpad for gaming, well I enjoy a mouse more but it is very easy to use if you play with it long enough. All in all the features at your fingers are smooth, gliding, and responsive to custom setups.
Audio and VideoThe G751JT-CH71 (ASUS) has a powerful high definition NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M (you can customize the machine to be more powerful, but I took the mean, or mid-strength of the series (maybe a little on the upper end on a few things).
The 17.3 in FHD anti-glare screen with 1920x1080 pixel screen resolution and 178° viewing angles allows for an extremely dominate clear and very crisp visuals with outstanding colors. The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M 3GB GDDR5 puts out scores of more than 9.3K in the 3DMark 11 performance benchmark allowing its users to play extremely graphic card driven games.
The integrated Intel HD 4600 that comes as part of this Intel i7 CPU is about 30% faster than the Intel HD 4000. Sound quality is quite good too, you have the internal Bass Eye subwoofer for additional low-frequency impact and ROG AudioWizard utility letting you choose the right sound settings for whatever you’re doing and with preset modes for different games.
The MX ConclusionThe G751JT-CH71 (ASUS) is an excellent replacement for a gaming desktop that you can take with you anywhere you go! It’s definitely an extremely powerful machine capable of delivering everything it was designed to do; a media center, gaming machine, and portable. All of the hardware inside, the smooth and finger friendly keyboard/pad, it’s sleek design, and its user-friendly GUI’s has this product up for one of my top five (5) picks, two years in a row. This is my first written review of this and I have to say, in regards to the sound, video, connections, wireless connectivity, the powerful software, and mostly the ability to game on the go with a machine just as powerful as a desk top, I rate this product a 97% of 100%
The 3% is lost on the amount of time the battery has per cycle which is around 4-6 hours depending on what you are doing. The reason for the short times, obviously, are largely due to the powerful hardware (ie. Video/Sound Cards) which I am willing to sacrifice for. This was a quick review - a more elaborate review will be released in an upcoming gaming magazine!
