Use a temperature monitor, see if either the CPU and/or GPU are causing the issue.

You can view what's causing the shut down via Event Viewer, at Windows Logs > System. The 'Level' should be Error ( ! ) or Critical ( X ).

If it's not temperature related, I'm guessing PSU, guess it must have aged to the point that it's no longer capable of drawing the power needed that it trips.

Does it just simply goes "off" by itself, or does it display any kind of error like the Blue screen of death?

If there's no such error, I'm pretty sure the system sink is overheating, causing the PSU unit to fail prematurely. For how long can you keep your computer turned on without turning on a Source Engine based game? See for how long you can keep it up without any kind of applications running.

If the system stays up in this way, turn on a power hungry application (Anything except for a Source Engine game) and see if that kills the PC or not.

Sounds like a standard PSU failure. It shuts off as a safety precaution to prevent damage to the rest of the system.
