I play mods online a lot, but you have to be aware which types of mods will not work online. Something like playing as Giga Bowser online will cause suspicion from Nintendo and will potentially ban you from online (only way to fix that is to get a new Switch). If you use a mod with something like altered stage collisions, altered animations, or altered hitboxes, the game will desynchronize online. The more times desyncronizations happen online, the more suspicious. That's why I deliberately make all my mods wifi-safe.

Just use the one right here on Gamebanana.
As for mods online, you just load the custom firmware and online can be played as long as the mods don't cause a desync, so you should go online with only cosmetic mods.
Although i have seen others say if you and the other people you play with online are using the same mods it won't matter if they are Non cosmetic, don't quote me on that though i haven't tried it.

You can use mods online safely if they are cosmetic contrary to popular belief, basically only if the mods do not change gameplay. You can use model imports and recolors and music all safely online because of this. Most SaltyNX and Skyline code mods are not safe to use online, they will instantly disconnect and desync you from the game, which has not been proven to cause bans, but you should avoid it out of caution.
