Can you mod Ultimate without getting banned?

I want to mod Smash Ultimate, but without installing a CFW, becuyase if your are online with a CFW, you will get banned instantly. So is there any a less risky method to mod Smash Ultimate without using a CFW? I know people are accessing PKHex and Homebrew without CFW.

I heard it's okay going online with CFW as long as you don't install any NSPs or use cheats/mods online. Back in June 2018 I hacked my switch and went online a few times, no ban. Recently i started using an emuNAND that's always online, no ban (yet?). In games like smash, I disable all mods to play online.

TL;DR: It's safe to go online with CFW. Just don't install NSPs or use cheats/mods online, and use emuNAND if you want.

Using an emuNAND partition to hack your console will create a copy of the system and it'll allow you to go back to the original and untouched storage, and you can use IncognitoRCM and/or 90DNS to block any connection to Nintendo's servers. There's plenty of tutorials out there for creating an emuNAND and utilizing the tools I mentioned before, the whole process shouldn't take you too long.

I play online a lot with Smash mods, but I make sure all my mods don't cause a desync or I'm not doing anything fishy like playing as Giga Bowser or playing on Rathalos' stage in an arena. In other words, if it looks normal to your opponent, you should be fine.

While we're sure using cosmetic mods online is just as safe as in Smash 4, if you want to be 110% safe I wouldn't risk it.

Personally though I find using Giga Bowser or impossible stages and other non-cosmetic mods to also be safe, but again don't lean on this either.

It seems mods are safe as long as they don't modify your save file or use anything that isn't already in the game.
