3D Skybox Model For Lego Maps
- A Concept for Source Engine.
A great way to add atmosphere to toy-sized maps with little performance impact.
I was thinking about Lego maps in Counter-Strike, and I never liked how they all felt like floating islands. This is a single model depicting a room, furniture, and accessories that uses one texture with baked lighting and effects. It is scaled to work as a 3D skybox model (sry gldsrc). The idea is that it puts your Lego map in a realistic environment - on some kids floor beside his bed. The example shown is a typical cartoon boys room (Think Bart Simpson's), which can be textured realistically or stylised. It has two planned possible sky_camera locations. The faces around these areas will take up more texture space, and faces unseen from these locations will be removed. Fully detailed it might use around 5k tris, near that of a playermodel.
This concept shows the idea as it is. I doubt I will pursue this project further or release anything I have so far.
