Thing to note, I am not an expert on Textures, I'm doing this to try and have a nice attempt at detailed Half-Life 2 textures that try to stay true to the Vanilla look. 

I am putting together a Half-Life 2 texture pack that combines the original Valve textures which were upscaled through Gigapixel with the details of Fakefactory Cinematic Mods re-textures.

I'm doing the main characters of HL2, the Vortiguants, Resistance, Combine and Zombies.

My main plan is to make textures that look high quality, yet are more accurate to the original textures. (Hope it's okay to use Blender screenshots for the WIP comparisons.)

    I was wanting to know what you guys thought about this. I bought Hunt Down the Freeman on Steam, (I know, why did you waste your money on that trainwreck of a mod?) It has some new textures for Gman, Metrocop and some Combine Soldiers. (Granted, they are only 1k, but they are slightly updated vanilla textures.) Should I use upscaled versions of those textures as the base textures to implement the details from FFCM or should I stick to the HL2/BM based ones?

    I am no expert in texture making or anything, but I can't see why everyone is hating this, these look pretty good, especially compared to some of the skins I've seen on here. Anyways, keep up the good work, I can't wait to see what this will look like when it's done!

    I'm interested to see where this goes. Some of them genuinely look like improvements, especially GMan, but on the other hand I can't say I understand how you somehow made Breen's eyebrows even more blurry than the original. I'm all for a retexture that sticks as close to the original material as possible, as long as it's actually an improvement.

    I know this mod is still on development, but a lot of the textures shown in the pictures look kind of bad. It looks like a bunch of different bits taken from different asset libraries blended into the original textures, and then a few translucent overlays added on top. Some of them even look blurrier, as if some of the original texture detail was lost in the blending process.  It all looks very simple and basic, and I think does more harm than good. 

    I do have to give you props for sticking closely to the look of the original textures and character designs. A lot of texture mods just slap higher resolution images on the models that don't look anything like the originals, but this seems like a sincere effort to improve on the originals without replacing them. That's something I really appreciate.

    This is just silly, upscaling textures, even with AI is just a bad way of adding detail.
    From what I see you even have loss of detail in a lot of the textures.

    Better graphics don't come from higher resolution textures with more clutter, it comes from stylization, better shaders and lighting, as well as improved models. People need to understand this.

    These all look kinda crap, except Grigori by some bizzare outcome.

    They're all blurry - GMan has lost all the finer details of his face, Mossman looks almost indentical, Breen's eyebrows are blurry as all get out, and have lost almost all contrast between the hair & skin.

    Why does the CP vest have a really badly scaled detail texture of what appears to be leather?

    I don't know how you're setting up that upscaling program, but you need to adjust it. It's outputting worse than the inputs currently.
