**UPDATE #2: 30/11/2013**
Slow progress is slow, but hey it's progress, right? Worked out some damage/wear/filth for the wood and put some more definition into the normal map, now the coating looks like coating.
A bit of more work on edge wear on the metal, far from done, haven't even touched some parts on the front and reciever yet. Also did some material definition and I'm pretty happy with specular and gloss feedback I think. Maybe some final finetuning.
Stuff that still needs to be done:
- Finish the edge damage and wear on the metal.
- Get some more wear on that wood.

> Really loving the wood! If I may ask what base that you're using for it?
To be honest I don't even know anymore :D I make these for every weapon depending on the refs.
I make all my wood textures out of 3-4 different photosourced base wood textures that derive from a personal collection i put together when I first picked up texturing some years ago. I mostly check refs and then start with one of the textures as a base do all my colour correction and mix a lot of other textures in for some variation until I'm as close as possible to the ref (I'm a wood nerd).
TL;DR: Base is made from 3-4 8 year old photosourced textures :D
