I've teamed up with aFreindlyCow to finish a map you may recall from an earlier WiP with some screens of it in hammer.
aFriendlyCow beefed up the bare map with some nice prop work and will later be adding some custom textures (and maybe radar).
This WiP will show you a bunch of in-game screen shots as well as some good sniping positions.
My main purpose for this map was to create a claustrophobic type map like Cs_Assault where the T's have good places to camp but tough to push/rush.
The map is designed so each side has a major advantage that would guarantee death to the other team and the inside is neutral territory since each team must be cautious of campers.
The CT's territory (front of building has a lot of good sniping positions)
- Can take out any T rushing out cafe.
- Standing on a pipe near a flight of stairs allows you to pick off any T heading through the Hallway.
- The T's side is smaller but they have higher elevation for snipers. (Note: Both snipers at the end of each camping spot cannot kill each other so taking this path will be increasingly sketchy.)
Also in the last uploaded screen shot (with the fireplace that mysteriously lights up the building across the street and I don't know how to fix that) the player can jump into that room from a window higher up but can't jump back out. Should you take this path, you risk your own life to make clearing out the building easier. Throw a flash' through the small window near the door and clear or defend (2 of the 4) hostages until your team arrives.
Rescuing the remaining 2 Hostages on the upper floor can be a pain but to make things easier, there's 2 large windows at the back of the building you can take them through (once I get the nav file built). If T's didn't have control and were hiding in that last room (seen in T sniper pic), they could jump out and switch up to a small defense at the rescue zone at the end of the hall but the twist to this map is that there are 2 rescue zones so as a CT, taking them to the RZ just in front of the cafe would be your safest bet.
Question:The walls in the front of the building are 16 units thick. I fear most people will just spray and pray. Will adding a Block Bullets brush in the middle of those walls work? or must the brush be on the surface of a wall?
Just some HVAC ductwork.
In modern homes this is the new material commonly used tho:
I know residential homes top to bottom, every little detail in their construction. If you've got questions or want to me run through early builds for "realism/accuracy" just let me know. Bookshelves full of knowledge here,
You can put joists for a deck on the ground no problem, doesn't matter if they rot out as they are quick/easy to replace. Floors within buildings however are always raised above the ground (with the exception of slabs on grade of course). Anywhere from 6" and up really,
- Reason A) Rot/Moisture and pesky critters
- Reason B) Frost Heave. Your floor be fucked come winter :P
Anywho, little details make up realism heh.
_Sidenote: First picture makes me want to scream. People should never dig out their own basements...that pier has lost most of it's supporting capabilities by digging that close...._
