This tutorial is rather simple, yet most people have yet to discover this. There are configuration files in the l4d2 demo that enable a "screenshot mode." But, before enabling it, we need to make some changes in their files to fix Valve's mistakes.
First we are going to want to explore to your l4d2 demo's cfg directory (C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\left 4 dead 2 demo\left4dead2\cfg). Double-click on the files screenshots.cfg and screenshots_undo. Open them with Notepad, Notepad++ is recommended though.
Scroll to the bottom of screeshots.cfg and replace sv_glowenable 0 with cl_glow_brightness 0. Do the same thing with screenshots_undo.cfg, except use cl_glow_brightness 1.
Now we should be ready to use screenshots mode. Open up Left 4 Dead 2 Demo or Left 4 Dead 2. Start up a game with map c5m1_waterfront. When you are ready to enable Screenshots Mode, type the following in the developer console (hit ~ to enable developers console):
This cfg file, which is installed on every copy of l4d2/l4d2 demo, does the following:
• Enables God mode.
• When zombies attack a player, they are deleted.
• Hides the HUD.
• Hides the weapons
• Binds the mouse wheel down scrolling to decrease the FOV.
• Binds the mouse wheel up scrolling to increase the FOV.
• Binds V to take screeshots.
• Binds Z to add a zombie at the location you are aiming.
• Binds Right-Click to slow down camera movement when clicked; reclick to change back.
• Turns on Infinite Ammo.
• Disables glow around survivors.
To revert back to regular display, execute this command in the developer console:
I hope this tutorial helps and we can see better looking screeshots for map/skin/etc previews. ;)
Nice tutorial. Could've used this before taking screenshots for my skin (I couldn't find a way to remove all this shit, since Valve disabled SV_cheats 1 and I couldn't turn off shit like HUD and glows myself).
