Firstly you will have to get a couple of programs such as - vtfedit - gcfscape - gimp 2 or photshop, but I am using gimp 2 To start off, go to counter-strike source/cstrike/cstrike\_pak\_dir.vpk then click on materials then console. extract background01.vtf (nothing else or it will screw up) extract it to wherever your want, I always make a folder named console and past it in there. part 2 now since you have vtfedit, the file saying background01.vtf will pop up with the vtfedit image so just double click background01.vtf or just open vtfedit and open it up from there. once you've loaded it, export it out onto desktop but name it something different like background export then just open it up with gimp 2 (alternatively, open it with the Gimp's VTF Plug-in). part 3 select an image you want for your background and save it. Once you've done that and your background export has loaded, right click it and it should come up with a list, scroll over file and another list will come up, click open as new layer and select your image, it will be opened as a new layer. Then click the scale tool and scale your image up to the same size as your background image and then delete the background export layer and save over the background export.jpg you just exported from vtfedit part 4 go into vtfedit and click file/import and import your newly saved background images that you just made. Once you've done that, click save in vtf edit and go into the console folder, once you've done that just get the file and go into steam/steamapps/common/counter strike source/cstrike/materials/console (if you made a console file and you copied that with the background in it just past that file into materials if you just copied the background01.vtf edit you made, then just paste in into materials/console/(here) part 5 LOAD CSS AND YOU'RE DONE

I don't know what my problem is but i followed everything in your guide and it didn't work for me.

Edit: I found out why it didn't work for me, I needed to use background01_widescreen, not the normal background01. Good Guide regardless of my error.

    10/10
