So you've learned the basics? Think you get the hang of surfing? Well I'm gonna teach you how to get to the next level! Remember that this does take some training, and these methods may not be the best for you.. But try it, and again, training! Before you know it, you are a surf-champion.
Approaching the ramp:
When you are in the air and approaching a ramp, you want to try to hit it in the biggest angle you can possibly get without screwing it up completely (with big angle I mean as straight as possible). The video in the end of this tutorial will show you what I'm on about. This is to make the transition from flying to surfing as smooth as possible, optimizing your surfing and making you go faster. A big and hard impact would slow you significantly down. That's what surfing is all about; speed! Another tip is to approach the ramp as you are gonna land on the other side of the ramp, but quickly shifting sides and hitting the ramp in a high angle on the x-axis as well. Again, this is shown in the video.
On the ramp:
Once you hit the ramp, you don't want to go straight forward. No, you want to go in a slight curve, from the middle of the ramp, down towards the bottom edge and then up again. Depending on the altitude you want after the ramp, either it's going through the ring on 10x_final (random map) or you want to hit a ramp that's directly in the path you want to vary the "throw" you give the mouse right before the end of the ramp. A sharp and aggressive swing will make you fly. Little or no swing will send you directly ahead. Video will show this as well.
Corners and turns:
When you're surfing down a ramp and a sharp turn or something like that is facing you there's a few things to remember. Do not just try to hold down the same button and move your mouse, that'll result in speed loss, falling, or dying. That's bad. You don't wanna die. So, instead if dying, you could do this:
Do a tiny jump, move your mouse towards the ramp, release the button you're currently holding, whether it's A or D, and press the opposite one. This will make you lift a bit off of the ramp. Make a smooth move with your mouse, towards the opposite side of the ramp you just jumped off of. If you did it right, and didn't die, you should be surfing on the ramp you were facing a split second ago. This all sounds very complicated but I promise you, it's very easy. I'm not very good at explaining things so I did it in slow motion in the video, with instructions and everything.
Falling straight down to a ramp:
Some times you are falling straight down, and you have to land on and gain speed on a ramp that's literally horizontal. This can be quite tricky, but with the right moves you'll gain back the speed in no-time. The most important thing here is your mouse movements. When you are falling you want to be looking in the direction you will surf. When you hit the ramp quickly look down to gain some much needed sideways speed while "walking" in the opposite direction of the ramp, then move your mouse smoothly but quickly forward again. This all has to happen in one, smooth move. Video explains. If not done properly you will end up with no speed and you will probably get stabbed from behind. This is a rather hard move and takes some training.
Hints:
Remember to ALWAYS, I repeat ALWAYS move the mouse smooth and nice. Sharp turns will either send you out of control or stop you completely.
When possible, try to skip as many ramps as you can. If you have enough speed to fly over a few ramps, do it. But be sure to not fly over any key-ramps, the ramps that you need to surf and jump from to make it to the next ramp/platform.
No video!
Thanks for reading, feel free to comment here regarding improvements/additions/questions about the tutorial. I am 100% self-learned, so I cannot be ripping someone off with their moves. lol.
Anyways, good luck and happy surfing!
Pros: useful stuff to know about surfing and is a very good tut
Cons: no video and a little hard to understand
Improvements: add vid
Notes: this is a great tut to learn from :)

Videos been removed. And yeah, these aren't extremely advanced, but they help a lot, and are so not basic. I challenge a newb to get through the ring on 10x.
Thanks for posting. My account was hacked along with everything else, so I didn't purposely remove it :P

As a surfer myself, all the information you provided is very well done. But it does not feel advanced. These are just the basics to surfing.
Try to include other topics like
Air Strafing(Popular in getting to legends)
Uneven Ramps(Like in the secret surf of surf_japan)
Sharp Turning around walls(surf_complex_beta)
Thanks for assessing.
Well, it may not be advanced but it's way more than just basics, which are "press a on right side of ramp and d of left side, move mouse to steer". I was going to put something in about uneven ramps but the tutorial kinda covers it in the sharp turns and edges section.. Sharp turning around walls etc does go under the basics.
Airstrafing.. I looked it up on youtube, only results from surf_skyworld popped up, and I must say, I've never seen that before. That isn't necesarry for surfing legends (tell me how that applies to that map please :P)
