How to Extract sounds

A Tutorial for Crysis

How to Access Crysis Sounds This is a simple and easy tutorial that does not require any difficulty. In this tutorial, you will learn how to access Crysis sounds and convert them to .wav files and further. Want to replace your dull shotgun sounds in Counter-Strike: Source with the Crysis shotgun sounds? This tutorial will show you how, and this is what we will use as an example. Things you will need for this tutorial: - WinRAR (Getting into the sound folder) - Music Player Ex (Playing the Crysis sounds and for converting), right click, save target as. Step 1: Find your Crysis directory. It would look something like this: C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis\ The C:\ could vary depending on your drive. Mine for example is the D:\ drive, but I used C:\ because it is the most common. Step 2: Get to the sound folder. From your Crysis directory, go to: \Game\ You will see many files that end with the extension “.pak”. These are simple to open, and all you need to do is right click, and select “Open with…” Select WinRAR and then you will see a folder that says “Sounds”. Step 3: Get to the folder that contains the sounds to the weapons. From your sounds folder that you got to through WinRAR, go to: \weapons\ You will then see a line of files that end in “.fsb” This extension is not another folder to be unpacked, but a file that contains all of the sounds combined, including reload sounds, shooting sounds, etc., and there are lots of them. Step 4: Opening the file that contain the sounds for the shotgun. To do this, you will need to open the Music Player Ex that you should have downloaded for this tutorial. Selecting “Open with…” and selecting the application does not work, so you will need to have the player open to play the sounds. Upon opening Music Player Ex, bring up the window that contains the list of .fsb files. Click and drag the file called “weapons\_shotgun.fsb” into the biggest open box below the playback options in Music Player Ex. You will then see a list of sound tracks appear that are titled “weapons\_shotgun (x)” (x = any number). These are your sounds. From here you can listen to them. Step 5: Converting the files into .wav to be used in Counter-Strike: Source. Let’s find the firing sound for the Crysis shotgun, or sounds more like it. The firing sounds start at “weapons\_shotgun (11)” and continue down to “weapons\_shotgun (14)”. Choose which one you like most, and right click on the sound track. A menu will appear, and six from the top, you will see the option, “Convert”. Click “Convert” and a window will pop up where you can choose the extension you want the file to have and the output directory. I choose ".wav" because that is the most common extension for Counter-Strike: Source sounds. For the output, I chose the desktop because it is the easiest place to find the sound. The sound track will appear converted on your desktop after clicking convert. Upon looking at the file on your desktop, you will see it has the “.wav” extension. You can now place it in your \cstrike\sound\weapons\m3\ under the name “m3-1”. Now when you play Counter-Strike: Source, your shotgun when fired will sound like the Crysis shotgun. The process is very easy once you learn how if you would like to do this with other weapons yourself. This is the end of the tutorial. If some parts are not clear or need more explaining, feel free to say so in the comments and I will add or fix the tutorial accordingly. Good luck!

It's been so long since I modded Crysis. I wouldn't know where in the world they would be. I remember trying to find them one day but I had no such luck. Sorry dude, it's just been too long.

The only thing I needed to know was the Music Player Ex app, but the whole guide looks very complete and helpful for me.
