I found that there were really no good tutorials on adding prefabs to hammer for newbies (like me =P ) so... Here it is.
1. Open the prefab archive with a unzip program. (I use winrar, 7zip is also fine.)
2. Go to common\counter-strike source\bin\prefabs (usual path: C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\common\counter-strike source\bin\prefabs *see screenshot)
3. Select everything in the archive and drag the contents into the prefabs folder.
Now it's done, the next time you open Hammer it will be there.
To add a prefab to your existing file, just choose the entity tool and at the bottom right of hammer where it says categories: choose prefabs instead of entities and at object you have all your prefabs.
To edit the prefab you need to mark it and click ungroup objects (button with 2 g's in it) so you get all the brushes/entities editable.
(Remember to give props to the person who originally made the prefab if you release a map with their work in it.)
Btw: I made this for people just getting into mapping, giving them a headstart. So all you people thinking "OMG that's so lame" or whatever, don't bother criticizing this tut, because I know I would have enjoyed it when I started out with Hammer.
So, I thought id post the install path for cs:go and this would be:
Your programs folder (most likely C:/program Files (x86), atleast if your os is win7) ../steam/SteamApps/common/Counter-Strike Global Offensive/sdk_content/Prefabs
The rest of the steps should be the same. At least to my knowledge. If not please post here so I can update it.
Sorry i been away from gaming for a couple of years =) but the way i see it now when i look in folder structs, more games mean more searchpaths for everything.
I havent had time too look yet but ill be back soon with the right paths.
