Welcome to my first tutorial! I will try to keep everything as simple as possible. Before you start this, make sure you have the following: - Photoshop 7.0 or higher (I have CS2 which might cause some confusion later on, I hope not) - VTF Edit - An understanding on how to use Photoshop effectively Now, we can start...
  • First off, open Photoshop from the desktop or program menu. Next, create a new image, 1024x1024 and input the resolution of your desired detail, such as I always use 400 DPI.
  • Fill the background in with black, and right click on the square selection tool. Go down and click on the elliptical selection tool and hold shift while dragging it to the desired size for a perfect circle (screenshot 1).
  • \*NOTE: In the end, you will need to scrunch the edges together to make it fit right ingame and not widen itself.
  • Fill in the selection we just made with the color of your choice, I chose white for a clear contrast of the two colors for when we add the alpha channel later (screenshot 2).
  • \*NOTE: This is going to be a very simple scope to not waste your valuable game time :)
  • Now you have the scope outline and you can go into adding your own details to it to make it whatever you want (Hehe, kinda looks like the beginning of James Bond, huh?) Keep in mind that when this is done, you will need to flip it upside down to make it overlay correctly ingame.
  • Once you are done with the details, then above your Layers tab there should be a Channels tab. Click on it and you will see 4 premade channels; RGB, Red, Green, Blue. At the bottom, create a new channel and it will be called Alpha 1 (screenshot 3). Be sure to click on the RGB channel then click in the box beside the Alpha channel to activate it, then it's ok to click on the channel itself for use (screenshot 4).
  • Now erase the red that has showed up when you activated the Alpha channel by using the eraser tool. Set the two palette colors back to black and white (press D) and now color in the areas that you want to be transparent using the black (screenshot 5), but make sure the Alpha channel is active and you are working on it.
  • Next, you do the usual for saving a skin file. Save the file in Photoshop as a .TGA to keep the Alpha channel with the image and to keep as much detail as possible. Open VTF edit and import your image. Save it as a .VTF in: C:\program files\steam\steamapps\common\counter-strike source\cstrike\materials\overlays
  • Start CSS and enjoy. As you can tell by my image (screenshot 6) that it does need more work. I just wanted to show you guys how to do this because I cannot find any tutorials on FPSB and on the internet, they just plain suck. Now you have a very basic scope, so just keep resizing, editing, etc. until you reach your desired result!
Well guys, that's my very first tutorial, and I hope it helps you out in the long run! Props to Rokusho39 for helping me during my first scope making.

Well, the easiest way to get your scope centered ingame is too.......are you ready for this one? Is to centre it in Photoshop!
Also, you need to make the canvas size 1280x1024 for standard resolutions, then resize it to 1024x1024 once your done.

You can use guides to center the lines if you want.
