you will need 3 things
1 - Audacity
2 - Goldwave
3 - your audio file
The tutorial is made assuming that you know basics
of making a map and working of hammer, and J.A.C.K.
and Goldsrc engine As well as using audio editing tools,
but still, it is friendly for new modders who wanna try.
STEP 1Open Audacity and import your audio by dragging and dropping.
STEP 2if you do not want to cut or edit your music file, skip to STEP 4
To cut the music file (or if you want the file to loop),
look at the bottom right side of the Audacity window,
you can see start points and end points.
Input proper values with seconds and milliseconds
for example, if I want to edit the audio
to start at 10 seconds and end at 1:40,
I will edit it as provided in the screenshot below
STEP 3now that you have selected your audio, go to
Edit>Remove Special>Trim Audio, now your file is cut.
STEP 4now go to Tracks>Mix>Mix Stereo down to Mono
your music will become mono audio
(THIS IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT.)
STEP 5Go to Tracks>Resample and select HZ according to your choice.
(ANYTHING ABOVE 22050 HZ WILL NOT WORK.)
Also make sure you have the same value in the bottom left box
of Project Rate (see screenshot below).
I personally like to select 8000 Hz because it makes the music
sound like it is coming from a Radio.
STEP 6now select File>Export>Export as WAV and Export dialogue box will appear.
You can name the file and save with default option.
Or, if you want to select different encoding,
make sure it is Microsoft PCM format only
STEP 7After saving the file with Audacity,
open Goldwave and import the saved file.
Now go to Tools>Cue Points
STEP 8 Now,
click New, give the name'1', click on Start, click OK.
click New, give the name'2', click on Finish, click OK.
The Cue window should look something like this now.
where 1 is the starting point and 2 is the ending point of music
STEP 9Now press ctrl+s to save your file.
your file is ready (THIS IS NOT OVER YET)
copy the file from that location.
STEP 10Now go to your directory cstrike/sound/custom_s,
where custom_s is the folder name according to your choice.
Now paste the file there
STEP 11open Hammer or JACK, open your map file, select entity tool.
Now select ambient generic entity and move it to the co-ordinates
where you want the sound to come from.
Step 12Note that the game will select path as cstrike/sound/
so you have to add your paths properly and add only the path
that is after the 'sound' folder in cstrike directory then filename.wav
In this case, it will be custom_s/audio.wav
set rest of the values according to your convinience (flags, radius e.t.c.)
STEP 13Compile your map and test it.
Thank you for being patient and reading upto this point.
for Sharing information about GoldwaveI made this tutorial so that it can be easily found
and no other modders have to put countless hours
into editing and placing audio files only to find out that
it is not working in the end and get disappointed with the map.
Enjoy Mapping !!! :-D
