How to use Arcinstaller GUI

A Tutorial for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

1. Requirements

2. Before you start

Download both programms mentioned above and make sure you put both in the same folder.

3. The Settings Tab

If you start the tool for the first time its recommended to set up your settings.
So switch to the "settings" tab and start to configure your setup.

The "data.arc path" in the "general" section is required to get various infos from that file.
Just hit the button next to the textfield and select your data.arc.

You only need to fill in the information of the "FTP" section if you wanna use the ftp option of arcinstaller.

If you set everything up it should look like this.

4. The Inject Tab

The inject tab provides 2 major options.
Injecting a mod directly in a data.arc
or
compressing a mod and give the files the correct offset name.

First we need to declare what we will call a "mod folder" and a "batch folder" in this guide.
A mod folder needs the following folder structure to work with arcinstaller:

in that case the "mod folder" would be "(Sonic-C01) Metal Sonic by Mastaklo"

a "batch folder" just includes several "mod folders". So the folder structure would be like this:

in that case the "batch folder" would be "0 Mods"

4.1. Inject in data.arc

To inject a mods directly in a data.arc just hit the "Select data.arc" button and search for the data.arc you want to inject your mods to.

4.1.1. Single Inject

To inject a single mod just drag n drop a mod folder on the drop field that says "Drop Mod Folder Here". You will then get the path to your mod folder in the textbox below.

If you set everything up correctly it should look like this

Then just hit the "Inject" button to inject your mod in the data.arc
a command window will pop up printing the status of your mod files.
If everything worked correctly it should look like this:

4.1.2. Batch Inject

To inject a batch mod just drag n drop a batch folder on the drop field that says "Drop Mod Folder Here". You will then get the path to your batch folder in the textbox below.
Make sure the "Batch" option is checked in the "Optional" section for it to work.

If you set everything up correctly it should look like this

Then just hit the "Inject" button to inject your mods in the data.arc
a command window will pop up printing the status of your mod files.
However it wont pause after it fully processed a mod like it does for single inject.

4.1.3. The Undo option

the undo option does exactly what it says.
If its checked and you hit the "Inject" button it will revert all files from the loaded folder to its original state in the selected data.arc.
Works for single and batch:

4.2. Dump Compressed Files

The second option will take the uncompressed files and dump the compressed and renamed files to an output.

To use that option you need to hit the "Select Folder" button and select a folder where you want your compressed files to be dumped to.

4.2.1. Single Dump

to dump a single mod just drag n drop a mod folder on the drop field.
If you set it up correctly it should look like this:

Now hit the "Inject" button and a command window will pop up printing the state of the files.

Once its done your compressed files will be in your Output folder

4.2.2. Batch Dump

to dump a batch mod just drag n drop a batch folder on the drop field.
Make sure the "Batch" option is checked in the "Optional" section for it to work.
If you set it up correctly it should look like this:

Now hit the "Inject" button and a command window will pop up printing the state of the files.
However it wont pause after it fully processed a mod like it does for single inject.

Once its done your compressed files will be in your Output folder

4.2.3. To Single Folder Option

Checking this option will dump the compressed and renamed files in a single folder which got the same name as the mod folder.
This is usefull if you prefer the old installation method with the SSBU Mod Installer for example.

4.2.4. Create Install txt Option

If you got the "To single folder" option selected you can also check the "Create install txt" option.
This will create a Install.txt in the same folder as your dumped files to use with the SSBU Mod Installer.

5. The Extract Tab

The extract tab is used to extract files from your data.arc
it uses a name table in .txt format to know which files to extract.
so after setting up your name table just browse for in by hitting the button next to the text field.
The path to the name table will be displayed in the textbox then.
If you set it up correctly it should look like this:

Now just hit the "Extract" button to extract the files specified in your name table.
A command window will pop up printing some info about the files declared in the name table.

the files will be extracted in the "extract" folder in your arcinstaller folder.

You can optionally choose a new path your files should be extracted by setting your path in the "Optional" section.

6. The FTP Tab

The ftp option is used to transfer you mod directly to your switch via ftp after processing .
Note that you need to have a ftp server running on your switch for it to work.

6.1. Single FTP

to compress and transfer a single mod to your swith just drag a mod folder on the drop field.
Next set up the path where the files should be send to on your switch.
UltimateModManager/mods for example
If you set up everyting it should look like this:

Now just hit the "FTP" button to start the process.

A command window will pop up printing some information about the process.

After its sucessfully finished you will find your compressed files on your switch in your specified folder.

6.2. Batch FTP

to compress and transfer a batch mod to your switch just drag a batch folder on the drop field.
Make sure the "Batch" option is checked in the "Optional" section for it to work.
Next set up the path where the files should be send to on your switch.
UltimateModManager/mods for example
If you set up everyting it should look like this:

Now just hit the "FTP" button to start the process.

A command window will pop up printing some information about the process.
However it wont pause after it fully processed a mod like it does for single inject.

After its sucessfully finished you will find your compressed files on your switch in your specified folder.

6.3. To Single Folder Option

Checking the "To Single Folder" option pretty much works the same as in the Inject tab.
If its checked and you hit the "FTP" button it will output all the files on the root folder of your mod:
Also works in combination with the "Batch" option

I get this error when I try injecting a file.  The size didn't even change and it was working just fine until I restored a Windows restore point.  What is happening?

  • Hey Mastaklo, with your arc installer guide to mod switch smash bros. I managed to get the romfs>data.arc from the cartridge using NXdumptool however its in 4 pieces, not 1 whole one like yours from the image, im assuming thats because I used fat32 on the SD. but would the arc installer process still work, if i just say only 1 of the 4 files for the mods to be injected to. n if not, then do I have to do the long process again  but as exfat now in order to get the data.arc as a single file. please help if possible many thanks. or is there a method to compress the 4 files to one. many thanks for your help btw if you do.

q2 Also your guide is really good. but just to clarify/ask, i just have my romfsfolder(4data.arcs) just in a folder by itself on my desktop, once i finished putting mods on it, where do i put it on my sd card speciffaclly, given that I have my ssbu game files  on the sd card (via nxdumptool) and atmosphere...

I tried to use the FTP feature, but when I do, it opens two command prompts that give out error messages (I don't know what they say because they close almost immediately.) I have my settings set up and I have my FTP client running. Any way to fix this?
