What you need first
-Knowledge of editing MSBT data
-Extracting/Rebuilding and editing param/prc data
-MSBT Editor, one can be found here.
-ParamEditor, which can be found here.
Step 1:Extract your msbt file from ui\message and make sure you select the region your game is on.
Step 2:First off, we need to clear space on the msg_name.msbt file. Open your msg_name+[region].msbt in a MSBT editor. We want to scroll down the list to nam_special_lower/normal/side/upper_help_00 and remove sections of words to lower the filesize of the file, or just make all the info blank (cause who reads moveset help these days for smash?)
Step 3:Now it's time to add slot names to the msbt! Go up to nam_chr1_00_[character], select it on the list, and on the bottom, change the 00 to whatever slot the mod is on (circled in red), after that, hit the add/plus icon
After that, you will see that it's been added to the list.
Repeat the process for nam_chr2 also, same can be done to stage_name too!
what do each chr## go to tho?
chr0 - CSS Icon name
chr1 - CSP name
chr2 - VS Screen/BP Nameplate/Punchout name/Result Screen name
chr3 - Unknown
stage_name - Punchout Title
Step 4:How to add the character's name tho? Just type it in, make sure that chr1 names is lowercase with first letter being capitalized, while chr2/chr3 is all caps. After your all done, save your changes and compress to the proper compressed size.
Step 5:Now we must edit ui_chara_db.prc! I find it best to use ParamXML to extract the param data via command prompt.
dotnet ParamXML.dll -d "ui_chara_db.prc location" -l ParamLabels.csv
Open the xml in your preferred application, I use Notepad++.
Go to your character ID (goes in order characters were released, refer to the smashbros site), and go to the slot your mod is on. In this case, I'll go to n04, the n## params are name ID, and change it to the same number that was added to the msbt.
After all that, save the xml file, and then use paramXML to recompile into a prc, using command prompt again
dotnet ParamXML.dll -a "path of ui_chara_db.xml" -o ui_chara_db.prc -l ParamLabels.csv
If you follow all of this correctly, you should have names working properly as in the images displayed up above.
