Several extra steps added to ensure ease of use.
Added .mp3 plugin link to tutorial and Tools sections.
Added "Export" step to explain the Exporting process.
This tutorial will teach you how to record the audio from playable sources. This can be used to record sound from YouTube videos, online song streaming, or any other source of audio you may want to record.
Audacity will be used to record sound. If you do not have Audacity, you can download it for free by clicking here.
1.) To begin, launch Audacity and select the "Edit" menu and open the "Preferences" window. (image below)
2.) Once the Preferences window has been opened, on the left you will see several sub-categories such as Devices, Playback, Recording, Quality, Interface, Tracks, Import / Export, Projects, Libraries, Directories, Warnings, Effects, Keyboard, Mouse, Modules. Navigate to the "Devices" category. Once you are in Devices, you will see several drop-down menus. To be able to record sound that would go through you speakers, we need to change the name of the "Host" to "Windows WASAPI". "Playback" is the device that will playback the sound that you will hear after it is recorded in Audacity. "Recording" is the device that Audacity will record the sound from. In this case, both the Speakers will be used for Playback and Recording. (image below)
3.) At this point you will begin to record the audio you wish to capture with Audacity. In this example I will use a YouTube video. Before you record a YouTube video be sure to turn up the volume on the video to 100% (all the way up), and set the quality of the video to the maximum. This will ensure you have clear and crisp high-quality audio recordings. (images below)
4.) You are now ready to record your sound, in Audacity, select "Record" (the red circle), and now press play on your YouTube video. After the video is over, press the "Stop" button (the brown square) in Audacity to stop recording. (images below)
5.) Now that you have your sound captured, it is time to export your audio. Select the "File" menu and open the "Export Audio" window. Here you can export the file in many file formats. (images below)
If you would like to export your sound in .mp3 format click here to download the required plugin.
