Custom Sound Mods Tutorial - A Tutorial for Team Fortress 2.

Learn how to make your own tf2 sound mods.

So, you want to learn how to make a custom sound mod,eh? Well look no further, this tutorial is good for beginners. GFScape 1. First of all, you will need 2 programs: GCFScape (Optional) and a Sound Editor (I use Audacity) 2. Let's begin, open up your GFCScape and locate `tf2_sound_misc_dir.vpk`. The file should be located at `Program Files/Steam/SteamApps/common/Team Fortress 2/tf`. Open it. You should get something like in Picture 2 (Look above) * * * * * * Audacity -------- 3. Now, lets say I want to make a custom Machete sound mod that goes 'Hi-Yah!' Open the `sound` folder in GFCScape and find the `weapons` folder. Now, I will need to find the name of the file which in case for me is 'machete_swing.wav' Remember the name and the format of the file as it is important later. 4. Open up your Sound Editing Program. In this case I'm using Audacity, so it might be a little bit different. I recommend you use Audacity so you won't be confused. Where were we? Oh right, I wanted my custom machete sound go 'Hi-Yah'. 5. Find the sound you want to use for your custom sound and place it in Audacity. It should look something like this (Picture 4 above) 1. Edit your sound anyway you want. 6. Now this is very important, see the Project Rate (HZ) at the bottom left? Make sure it is set to 44100 or else it won't work. When you are done with editing, Press 'File' and press 'Export'. Export it to your `tf/custom/my_custom_mods/sound/weapons`. If you don't have the files, create them. Take note as not all custom sound goes into the 'weapons' folder. When exporting, export it as the same format and name you saw earlier which was 'machete_swing.wav' for me. (Don't type in the .wav, rename it to machete_swing and choose wav format) You are all set to use your custom sound mod. So what now? Test it of course. If it works, Congratulations! You made a successful custom sound mod. If not, try again. Re-read every step carefully and follow what it says. If you are confused by any step in the tutorial, post a comment. I will help you when possible.
