How to make a switch to turn lights on and off.
- A Tutorial for Counter-Strike 1.6
Since this is an Intermediate level tutorial,I assume that you already know how to add entities and edit them.
Once you add the light entity you want select it and then hit alt+enter.
In the "name" field add a name that you can easily remember.I'll choose light1 for this tutorial. If you want the light to be off when you start and then turn if on,click on the Flags tab and choose "Initially Dark". If you want it the other way just leave it as it is.
Then make a brush that is going to be your switch.Select it and press Ctrl+T.Change its class to func_button and then fill the "Target" and "Target Path" fields with the light's name which is light1.Change the delay value to 0 to make it a more realistic switch.Go to its flags and check "Don't move" or else your switch will move when you use it.
If you want to do this with multiple lights just add more lights and add the same name on them.
Advice:If light from somewhere else (sky or other light entities) does not reach the room you want to apply this to,I suggest you add a second light entity that is very dark to make the room look dark but at the same time be able to see where the switch is,or to just create a dark looking room instead of plain black (like I did in the screenshots).
