What is "$selfillum" "1" exactly? ================== That's what I'm about to teach you --------------------------------- ### Introduction The "$selfillum" "1" is a command in your .vmt that makes certain parts glow in the dark. Now putting "$selfillum" "1" in your .vmt does **not** make your parts glow you have to define what parts should be glowing, and doing so in a photoeditor like Photoshop or Gimp. ### Process **For the sake of the tutorial I've chosen to use Photoshop** #### Step one First you should select which weapon you would like to have glowing parts, I've chosen the USP.45. "**But** 4Echo how can I open the .vtf in photoshop" No you should not open the .vtf directly with photoshop that is not possible (as far as I know). Instead you should download [VtfEdit by Nemesis](http://nemesis.thewavelength.net/index.php?c=178 "") VtfEdit makes it possible to export your textures as .TGA (a format that is readable by photoshop) and it can also convert your .TGA into .VTF. I assume that you've exported the texture. #### Step two You should now open the .tga with photoshop and you might see something like this (look at the second screenshot) Go to the channels tab (located in the lower right) - third screenshot. And you might see something called "Alpha 1", if you do not have an alpha channel you can create one. Also the "Alpha 1" should be named "Alpha" so rename it. The "$selfillum" "1" command points to the diffuse textures alpha, the one we have infront of us. #### Step three You should find the parts you want to be glowing (for realism I chose the rear sights. Now you should paint your alpha so it looks like (see screenshot 4). Export as .tga and import with vtfedit. To see if it works go to "view>mask" or press ctrl+M save as pist_usp.vtf #### Step four' This is the .vmt part, you should just paste "$selfillum" "1" in your .vmt, it could be placed anywhere just so it's between the code brackets. I highly recommend you to put it last. #### Step five This is the last and final step.. test it ingame! Check the last screenshot for result. I hope this tutorial helped you to accieve a basic understanding of "$selfillum" "1" //4Echo

It's better, but you should consider either making short sentences in list form, or merge fractures into bigger paragraphs.

I think you meant "Quite", and this plug-in might not work for 64-bit versions of Photoshop, or versions around CS3 perhaps. Gimp's plug-in does though. As for the author, stop using "now" so much and instead make unordered lists; I'll do it this time if you don't feel like doing it now, but I expect better next time.
