How to change and use custom sounds in CS:GO - A Tutorial for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

A better means of changing game sounds

This tutorial will cover how to customize sounds for the following: -Weapon sounds (firing sound, reload, draw etc.) -footstep sounds i am yet to figure out how to change the player damage sounds..... This tutorial is written assuming you already have a custom soundfile intended to replace cs:go's For weapon sounds: 1.Go to steamapps\common\Counter-Strike Global Offensive\csgo\scripts 2.Open "game_sounds_weapons.txt" 3.Search (CTRL+F) the text for the soundfile you wish to replace (ex. the deagle's firing sound would be "deagle-1.wav") 4.Change file-path-text to somthing/anything different (ex. "weapons/deagle/deagle-1.wav" to "weaponsRAWRT/deagle/deagle-1.wav") 5.just repeat steps 3 & 4 if you wish to replace multiple sounds 6.save the .txt 7.now go to the new file path you specified in your game_sounds_weapons.txt (ex. in this case its "weaponsRAWRT/deagle/deagle-1.wav") 8.place your custom sound file in the directory and name it the name you specified in the .txt (ex. in this case its "deagle-1.wav") 9.Startup CSGO and open up the dev console 10.You are going to type in the CVAR: snd_updateaudiocache 11.after typing this CVAR, the console should show a log of newly added soundfiles (your custom sound file should be among this list) 12.The sounds should work in-game! To replace player footsteps you have to open "game_sounds_pysics.txt" and edit the text that reads "player/footsteps/XXXX.wav" (XXXX being the footstep sound files) I released a personal soundpack on the csgo steamforums with these edits in action, you can download it yourself for reference (I cannot and will not release it on gamebanana) http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3011285 Using custom scripts, custom VPK's etc. (which are essential for custom content for CSGO and other L4d2-branch source games) will get you kicked from sv_pure servers (meaning, you cant play on matchmaking servers) hopefully valve will implement a addon system like l4d2 or make sv_pure 0 servers or playlists Happy fragging and a happy Holidays!

    I'm having the same problem as "mathieucore3". Even after two years it's still not working. Just no sound, followed exactly every step twice. Now what do I do? All I wanted was just to change the default AK-47's firing sound to CSS' one.

  • Wow, this really worked for me! I can finally port my custom sound pack from CSS to CSGO, now. However, I do have one question (which will probably go unanswered since this tutorial is 2 years old): How do you change it so the firing sound doesn't stack? My replacements sound terrible this way, and I want them to play CSS-style where the sound loops for each shot.
