Counter-Strike 1.6 Movie Tutorial
This tutorial is about making your own Counter-Strike 1.6 movie. Following the steps below should get you a playable .avi video file that you can import in your video editing software of your choice from which point you can proceed with making an actual compilation of your Counter-Strike demo files. The process may or may not be workable with Counter-Strike: Source. So, lets begin:1. Software required
- Sony Vegas: Download
- Virtual Dub (preferably one of the newer versions): Download
- Huffyuv codec: Download
- Open the .rar file you downloaded
- Click on the Wizard icon and it'll extract all the files to a specific folder on your Desktop
- Open that folder (it'll probably be named "huffyuv-2.1.1")
- Right click on Huffyuv.inf and click on "Install"
- Open Counter-Strike 1.6
- Open the console and write "viewdemo demoname" (without quotes) and press Enter.
- Now write bind F1 "startmovie FILM 90" and bind F2 "endmovie"
- Find the demo scene you want
- Press F1 to start start recording the scene
- Once you're done with recording the scene, press F2
- You can close your game now
As a result from the previous step, the cstrike folder in your installation directory should be filled with a huge number of picture files (aka frames) of the recorded scene. Let's merge everything into a playable video file:
- Open VirtualDub
- Click on "Open" and find the "cstrike" folder in your Counter-Strike 1.6 directory.
- Select the first picture from previous process (its name will probably be something like "mapname0001.bmp" - e.g de_dust0001.bmp) and open it.
- Go to Video --> Frame Rate and select "Change Frame Rate to FPS"
- Write 90 in the "FPS box" (if your Counter-Strike is running at a different framerate, you might want to adjust the value here, but I do believe the default is 90)
- Go to Video --> Compression --> and select "Huffyuv" and click on OK
- Now save the project as a .avi file by going to File --> Save as AVI.
With that done, we've got an .avi file which we can watch and / or import into Sony Vegas or any other video editing software of your choice. Thank you for reading this and good luck with your recordings!
