How to Make Counter Strike Skins - A Tutorial for Counter-Strike: Source

How to Make Counter Strike Skins by Vikas Kapadiya

How to Make Counter Strike Skins "Counter-Strike" originally started out as a modification of the popular video game "Half Life." But "Counter-Strike" became so popular that it was eventually packaged into a retail game and went on to become one of the most recognized multiplayer games of all time. "Counter-Strike" is a first-person shooter that pits terrorists vs. counter terrorists in realistic environments while using realistic weaponry. Creating skins has become easier over time, as modification tools have become simpler to use and understand. Instructions Things You'll Need: 1. Vtfedit 2. GcfScape 3. Photoshop (or any image editor) Creating the skin 1. Launch Gcfscape. Click "File," select "Open," and find and select your "Counter-Strike Source" folder. The folder is located at "C:\program files\steam\steamapps\common" by default. Double-click on the cstrike_pak_dir.vpk file. A list of files will be displayed. Select root\materials\models\weapons. 2. Select the weapon you want to edit. Click the folder and select "Extract to." Extract the file to your desktop to easy access. This will create a "vtf." (Valve Texture File) file. 3. Launch VtfEdit. Click "File," select "Open" and choose the recently created vtf. file. This will display the skin of your weapon. Click "File" and go to "Export." Export it as a jpeg or a png file. Either one is a picture file that can now be edited with an image editor such as Photoshop. 4. Launch Photoshop. Click "File," select "Open" and choose the recently created photo file. Use the tools provided by Photoshop to edit and manipulate the file as much or as little as you'd like. When you're finished, save the file as a "png" file. 5. Open Vtfedit. Click "File," select "Import" and import the recently created png file. Click "File" and click "Save as." Save the file to the folder that you exported in Step 1 while using GCFScape with the name of your finalized weapon. Name the file the same name as the original vtf file. If you forgot the name of the file, retrace your steps in Steps 1 and 2 to find the file that you ended up selecting. Placing the skin into Counter Strike 1. Open your Counter-Strike: Source custom folder (by default it is "C:\program files\steam\common\Counter-strike Source\cstrike\custom"), then go to my_mods\materials\models\weapons making the folders as you go along. 2. Copy over your newly created vtf. file into the Weapons folder. 3. Launch "Counter-Strike" as normal. You will find your new skin available with all of the other weapons in the game.

Pros: Well of overall. Could use a few modifications to the writing, but very helkpful overall. Cons: Little snippits, just make it alittle easyer to visualise and itll be great. Improvements: Just a bit of fine tuning.
