The world

This tool is a true gem. By far the best way too compile a map. The Valve Batch compiler tool is a GUI for compiling maps. It has many extra functions implemented in like VMPI, LDR, and others. It has handy code that stops the compiling process if a leak is found (can be turned off). It only runs the game if nothing wrong happened (ie a vis.exe crash). It knows which configuration to use (whatever game you opened for sdk last). It has incredibly fast compile time (Note screenshot two's compile time. In hammer it took 9 hours. It is always responsive. You can choose to cancel at any time. It even includes a changeable backround! Need I say more?

    Hey this just mest up my map and now i cant even open it thorw hammer.

    Error: Failed to load the default scheme file. The map views may be missing some visual elements.

    then i get this.

    Fatal Error: Models/effects/cappoint_hologram.mdl not found and models/error.mdl couldn't be loaded.

    I worked hard and now i lost my map.


    try loading an auto save of your map.

    Only probem is, might just be me, but sometimes my maps will take ages to compile and so I just give up, but it might just be me or my map.

    Yup...9 hours! Youc an realy sit there letting it compile! Mine took an hour to get to about 2 on vvis once...shows how impatient I am lol.


    well i usually just compile it over night or while i'm at school.


    I tried that once, came home to see it was 4... but that was a pretty un-optimized map.


    Optimization plays a HUGE part in compile time. Saving on the cutting up of visleafs will result in literally hours faster compile. before i optimized the map i tried to compile it. it ran for 6 hours and was only at 3.

    Pros: This tool definably is a must for source mapping. I knew it existed for Goldsrc, but not source. Very good tool, does what it needs to do, very easy to use, lots of advanced options(I don't know what half of them do). VMPI is very nice. Help tab is nice addition.
    Cons: Well I would have liked to see some sort of compiled help file, not just random tabs that you have to read off. Also including an explanation of advanced options would be cool.
    Improvements: You didn't make it so it doesn't matter.
    Notes: What's the difference between Full and Final?

    I'm running a compile of a map I still need to finish, and the VIS leaves are terrible, so the compile time in Hammer was well over a day. This tool allows me to actually use my computer during the compile process, and VIS is at 8... 1:36:00 into compile on FINAL. Very nice tool.
