Alt+Tab too slow?

When I was making CSS maps I just used ALT+TAB to get into the game, but in TF2 its far too slow when your doing a lot of testing. I've found that if you run less than max resolution and use windowed mode, there is no lag switching into and out of the game. Also in game play, press ESCAPE to release the mouse from the game.

It depends on your memory, but obviously, a lower res is faster, but doesn't look as good.

Its not about the low res, its about how the game hooks your hardware. The lower res is so you can get at the border of the window :D if its the same res as your monitor, its a pain to deal with. In any case, faster ram WILL make for faster swapping.

RAM doesn't go faster, you just have more of it.

Heh, ram does go faster. DDR2 800 is faster than DDR2 533, ect. Yes, more might help if you don't have enough for everything you have to be in memory. Otherwise, its not that big of a deal.

Wow, way to degrade the conversation to 7th grade Windows98. And your right, you probably wouldn't notice the difference. Fact stands that one type of ram can be faster. And Rootbeerz, I didn't mean to imply they are the best, DDR533 is what I personally have so its what came to mind -.- mah bad

Abehest, i think my lag is acutally that i run CSS max res, and TF2 lower, the lag is actually the monitor changing res. So, keeping it in a window avoids that. Wildcard777, aye, so it not a problem for ya :P

I run TF2 on a half a gig of RAM mate. Most of the time is runs smoothly too. My resolution is 800x600. so no running in a window has never been an issue. If I had more RAM then I would personally play with full screen since it wouldn't lag so much.

Same prob here. I guess its a bug, since they changed the source engine a lil bit when making tf2, it is still quite a bit buggy. I have +6400 black edition x2 athlon 4 gigs ram 2 hd2900xt's

Whats the command to run TF2/CSS in a window? I run TF2 med-low graphics at 1280x1024 fullscreen. With AMD3000 and 512mb ram(pc 3200) it takes my computer about 5-10 seconds to switch back and forth. I overclocked my computer and remove a lot of precesses to make TF2 run better.

Its not a command, its a setting on the tab that you change your graphics on in options.

You can also add -windowed to your TF2 launch options (Accessed by right-clicking TF2 in your Steam games list and you'll find them in the settings window).
