An ATI HD 2900XT 1GB GDDR4 card would be the way to go. ATI is much better than NVIDIA. :)

Yeah, 8600 is what you want for vista. If you had XP I would have told you to get the 7950. Either should run any game on high.

I'm not so sure about that, a 7900GS would still run his games a lot better than any 8600. Sure its DX10, but whats eyecandy if the card cant even run it?

7600GS 512MB is not bad, but I cant remember if they made PCI-E X800s, but if there ALOT cheaper than the AGP ones, it will kick ass even if it only has shader 2.0. It ran any game that only needed shader 2 support up to 25 FPS higher than my 7600GS512MB, and cooled much better. And had some were between 128MB to 512MB of DDR2 Vram(O_o I know every thing said diffrent. Just like every thing said it had Shader 3.0 but it didnt....)

    BF2 Max= 60-70FPS
CSS max= 80-120 on official maps and 175-250(Spikes to 375) on low detail maps like scoutzknives.
Driv3r menus ran at 9999 FPS O_o (It must be an EXTREMELY well optimized one I guess)

Even then a good 8600GTS can outperform a good 7900, if you check carefully some 8600's will have a better core and memory clocks that some 7900's of the same price, usually the 8600 will have more pixel pipelines aswell, leading on to better performance.

The card posted by crazypip is a brilliant example of what an 8600 should look like specs wise, I'd recommend that card highly.

If your running this vid card with vista i extremly recommend get the 8000 series.
    EVGA GeForce 8600GT
That video card is only 135MHz slower than the next series up and costs about 50$ cheaper. Its on sale there with a mail-in rebate. its $99.99 after the sale and rebate. practicly a steal at that price

He might not be on an SLI board.

And 175Mhz is a noticable difference, I'd say got with the GTS, the extra $50 will be well spent.

I did some reading and it looks like the 8600gt really sucks piss. Go with the gts, or consider a high-end 7 series if dx10 isn't an issue for you.

He said a $150 to $200 price range. And no since AMD bought ATI, they no longer want to make any high end video cards. They just want to make midrange cards and better onboard graphics chips. Also SLI is WAY WAY better than Crossfire. Don't know where you get your information, but its wrong. I suggest a Nvidia 8600GTS. Its as good as a 7900 GT and is DX10 ready.

The 8600GTS is a better card than the 7900GS. Take a look at these benchmarks to see how they compare.

8600 gt is fine, I get enough fps on most games, and he only wants CS:S + BF2. Trust me I have both games and I built my computer on a tight budget.
