An Idea Through My Unit to expand realism

Well in my realism unit the 29th ID a while ago my captain approached me and asked if I would be interested in working on a project they were planing to extend realism to new levels. At first I was all excited and wanted to see what this was about and it still seems really intresting to me. He talked about the concept for having huge battles I'm talking 100-200 players at a time playing, with tanks planes and other things but you ask yourself. "How could you do this?" Well he showed us a gaming engine known as the "Torque Engine". Its rather intresting. I would like to see something like that happen because if you have never tried realism or even tried it once and enjoyed it then you'd see where I'm coming from. Still if you don't I will explain it for you. 1. You have one life similar to CS 2. You go into a map and you are given different scenarios. They can be Attack/Attack - Where both teams will be on different sides of the map and then assult one another. Attack/Defend - One team gets a given area to defend while the other team attacks. 3. You will have specialized players on your team such as Light - The Thompson for Allies MP40 for Axis Heavy - The B.A.R for the Allies MP44 or FG-42 for Axis Machine Gun - The 30. Cal for Allies MG34 or MG42 for the Axis Bazooka - M1A1 Bazooka for Allies Panzerschreck for Axis Riflemen - M1 Garand or M1 Carbine Allies K98 or K43 for Axis Now its gets really interesting in our server our Captain has coded things from being able to drop and swap grenades, and deploy any deployable gun on any surface similar to DOD:S Still this is a quick run down their is alot more out their, but heres my real message who would like to help contribute to such an idea? I'm sure that you could use this engine for many other things as well such as a game similar to BF2 but with 100 players on even bigger maps where every house is at your disposal to use.     It sounds like they've mixed BF2 and Insurgency and added lots of players to me. The idea of 100's of players is interesting, but I've never been shown this engine you're talking about, so I really can't help out.

    Well I'm a skinner/modeler and too what my captain told me it was quite easy to figure out. DODS does suck thats why we'd want to do something like this.

    No Luntix sadly we wont be in HL2 or HL1 the reason we are on this journey is because we have pushed the HL1 engine to its limit, but if HL2 could hold say 100 players then we'd stick their and here's something else for players who might not have a high end PC its not all that graphicly taxing.

    Now if you take a look Here This package by Dog454 I've had these as skins way before it was even a pack. Also I know it is possible to bring these weapons into this new engine I speak of. So the player models I have are also fairly good as well so I'm telling you we can do it.

    I dont know about lag, but all of those materials in a big battlefield would make the game ridiculously choppy.

    The only problem is that you have to convert all the .mdl files to .DTS format. That would take quite a bit of time, and some experience with modeling to do it. You'd also have to buy the rights to the Torque Engine ($150 US). Plus you'd have to find a coder who's familiar with the Torque Engine.

    Your all right but hey think about it look at this site who are we? We are skinners, modelers, coders, sound specialists, mappers, and anyone else I am forgetting guys we do this because we love it and I think it would be something we all could submit our time into even if its the slightest bit you know?

    If I could I would, unfortunately I have no clue how to skin/model/code/map or any of the goodies. The only thing I can contribute to this site is break dancing and paint balling, but since neither of those benefit the community or your project in any way, I offer you my moral support. =D

    He isn't announcing the mod as such, more so presenting the idea and asking for help I think.
    Mango I don't think you will be able to find anybody here who has the degree of programming knowledge to pull this off, let alone get them to do it for free. I don't mean points, I mean large amounts of cash in the form of a salary, programmers get paid a lot of money.

    i do a little bit of mapping on the side when i'm bored, but i hardly ever release my maps, they're usually just for personal use, but, if you want, i guess i can help with mapping a little.

    I told you before that I liked the idea, and I am also willing to contribute my services. (Mapping.) What I demand however before I get involved is an example of this engine in use! What games have been made on it, or did someone working on this project create it? (Which I doubt.)

    Well When we worked on it we got as far as a dod player model in game and a v_model of a Garand

    Still I also forgot to mention, their was talk of why not add another class. Medic or Flamethrower persay you look at how they would fit in the game together or even at all and how they work. So its all something that I think sound be looked at no?

    Medic could work out, flamethrower will look sketchy not because of the era but because the flames are just sprites. TFC had a flamethrower guy but the flames looked sketchy.

    Right I see where your comin from and flame is rather difficult to replicate in a video game I'd personally say if any game ever did it remotely well was in brainbread. That game did one hell of a job at it. Still let me remind everyone this is not going to be on the HL1 or HL2 Engine we're gearing it more along the lines of the Torque engine so go and read up on that for some more information.
