Well, it's a laptop... You can't fit a desktop card into a laptop.

I don't know about graphics card but since you're already that high in money, how about you buy something other than Norton.

After Googling for "HP DV9000" I found that it's a GO 7600. Not exactly a futureproof card, but I think you should get a decent framerate in CS:S.

    I have a 6600, and it's not enough for this gen, get a 7900 or higher =\.

If you're looking to get a decent framerate in CS:S you'll be looking for at least a go 7600, though I'd recommend you get a go 7950 or an 8600.

I think the logical answer is to go ahead and opt for a better graphics card, although it will surely be more expensive.

Get something AT LEAST in the 7 series range. I'm unhappy with my 6600. It runs source games on max without HDR, but produces minimal eye candy. Like I run oblivion on 800x600 high. If you want to play next gen games that don't run and look like crap, get a 7950 GO.

Decent laptops with decent graphics cards are rare. Good luck in finding one within your price range.

The laptop I'm buying has an nVidia 8600M GT 256MB in it, top of the line graphics card for laptops, if I'm not mistaken. Look into those, see what you can turn up.

You can find a nice ASUS G Series laptop with a great graphics card. However, I haven't seen any for cheapear than 1700. The F3 Series also seems to be rather good and those can be as low as 1450. I don't think it's too bad if you want to make a real investment.

Yeah, but to use said card, it has to be plugged in to AC or you get like two frames XD. I tried playing oblivion on the road once. Bad idea.
