Pfft, ya right

So I was having an arguement with someone over xfire talking about CSS' realism. My opinion that it is far from realistic. Let's list some of the things: 1. It might take about 6-7 shots to take someone down even if you shot them in the chest. 2. Default ragdolls are floppy and unrealistic 3. None of organazation's on the Terrorist team are actually real 4. Gun damage is messed up 5. Movement is very unrealistic (bunny hopping, scout being faster than knife, etc.) There's more I just can't think of anything. So..realistic or not?

    America's Army: Rise of a Soldier is pretty releastic, like two shots and you're dead.

    Aren't you supposed to be banned? Anyways it's arcade-ish realism which is my favorite style among games. And the original was one of the first games to even have a realistic thing in it.

    R6 was released before 2000, and so was Ghost Recon, etc...


    That's why I said ONE of the first. Also the original was released in 99. The first R6 was a 2d top down shooter so if you can call that realistic. And the first ghost recon was released in 2001

    Cigano, RVS is one of the best games I've ever played, but for the most realistic game goes; Ghost Recon (The originals) were the most realistic. Buying weapons alone per round should be enough to kill a realism point of view. There are many things that stick out in my mind as non-realistic:

    - Weapon accuracies, either under or over reactive
    - No fatigue
    - Knives making you run faster. (Sorry boys, but it doesn't matter where you put your weapons on your body, you've still got the same amount of weight on you.)
    - Grenades make a little tiny boom while a bomb decimates half a map. Grenades don't do their job.
    - The jumping -- need I say more?
    - Radar
    - Much, much more.

    Sorry, but I took this as an opportunity to jump on CSS.

    That being said, fun game.

    Actually, the knife, pistols, and SMGs (except P90) all have you move the same speed in CSS. The Scout is the fastest weapon and only weapon that moves faster than default. That's the real WTF since the Steyr Scout is relatively heavy. ~7lbs with absolutely no accessories for that POS? No thanks.

    Anyways. You can edit some stuff to make the game a little closer to realistic, but even then it will only ever get so realistic. Imagine a game where reloading and weapon switching was absolutely realistic. That'd suck ass. The only people who'd ever be pro would be the ones that had the patience to be quiet and use the damn knife.

    Actually stag, what weapon you have out can affect your running. You need arm movement to run fast, and something blocking that can affect how fast/well you move.

    That's what I fuckin hate about CSS. Grenades do jack shit.

    60-70 damage if it's under you is terrible. But I remember once I hit a guy in the face with a grenade and it went off right in his face and did a good 93 damage. But you really shouldn't have to hit a guy in the face with a grenade to do damage.

    Well put it this way zeo if we could all run around killing each other 1 or 2 shots with every gun the game would turn into more of a camp fest than it already is. Balance comes before realism learn it don't criticize things because it's not the way you want it.

    Well, if they gave it more pressure to do the actual objectives in most maps, there wouldn't be that problem. Kind of like in Red Orchestra.

    I say it isn't realistic at all, if you want realism, make it so that if you get shot in your shoulder, you are basically screwed, or it could have you switch hands that you shoot with and lower your accuracy, I think that would be a good idea. Or if you get shot in the foot, you can only walk really slowly, or in the knee, and you can't walk at all really.. Basically, CSS is not realistic, in any way. I have shot people in the face with a shotgun, and they only take ~87 damage.

    Why are MOST games today based on realism and then their gameplay sucks. There are some games that have both, or at least attempted at realism (CS:S). I mean yes it's good for developing better hardware etc but most games suck because they are too much based on realism. Like Doom 3, WAY too much bump mapping trying to make it look realistic, and the gameplay sucks, monster pop out, you shoot them. More monsters, shoot them. Ever more monster, kill them dead. Oh no, BIGGER monster.

    For all I care, Source could look like 1.6 and I'd play the hell out of it. Maybe more for I have a crappy computer.

    Pssh, it's the closest thing to real mothafuckas, I took a grenade to the face the other day and I suffered nothing more than a sneeze.

    I also bunnyhop to school and take daily gunfire just short of 10 bullets, not to mention that I was chatting with the pheonix connection and the arctic avengers only a few minutes ago.

    I think realism is only good in game where it is a vehicle simulation, like flight simulators, combat flight simulators and car racing simulators.

    Red Orchestra is a perfect example of having balance while still being realistic. Shots do quite a bit of damage, and the guns with a high rate of fire are balanced out with a realistic high recoil. That makes the weapon of choice for many to be a bolt action or semi-auto rifle.

    Counter Strike is far from realism, i honestly dont know what ValvE was doing when they made the damage settings. i dont care what gun you shoot someone with, its still going to bring them down (probably not dead) with one shot. in CSS you can get hit with the glock about 10 times and still be able to walk around shooting every one. in real life you get shot with a glock ONCE and your down on your knees.

    thats probably the only thing i hate about CSS.

    Though CSS might seem realistic to some, it is actually very inaccurate to realism. The closest thing to being real in that game could probably be the weapons, and the Guerrilla Terrorist force, since one actually exists. The rest, is completely un-realistic, but that's what makes the game fun and addicting.

    That happens in Red Orchestra, except if you're shot in the arm (or stabbed, mind you) you drop your gun and ammo and need to pick it back up. Which doesn't happen much, you don't always drop your gun too. But someone snuck up behind me, ran around me and stabbed my hand with his bayonet and I only thing I had besides my rifle was my grenades and I didn't have enough time to even pull those out because he then stabbed me in the chest.

    The closet you can get to realism in CSS is removing the crosshair (As far I know)

    Back when most games were death match frenzy fuck mode between aliens and humans that take 900 billion fucking bullets to kill someone. It was one of the first to feature realistic weapons and semi realistic damage (headshots).

    It's not realistic, big whoop, who cares. If you want a realistic game go outside, and play soccer or something.

    CS:S is much more realistic than BF2 with the blood effects and gun damage. BF2 is just ugh.

    If you want realism, play GR:AW(Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter) or GR:AW2. America's Army was built to be a simulation game also advertising to people encouraging to join the army. Then another realistic game would be SWAT4 using tactics and common sense to enter and clear rooms looking out for threats and how to neutralize them.(AI have a little bit of glitches.)

    Games are for fun, not realism. Why would you want to play a game that when you get shot you drop your gun because your too weak and cannot shoot? A game when you die you get kicked from the server forever because you died? That is not fun.

    Well put it this way zeo if we could all run around killing each other 1 or 2 shots with every gun the game would turn into more of a camp fest than it already is. Balance comes before realism learn it don't criticize things because it's not the way you want it.


    Picture DOD:S, yes the team is balanced, but the German weapons were far more efficient and effective than the US weapons. Even though it's base on a war that happened a while ago.

    Games are for fun, not realism. Why would you want to play a game that when you get shot you drop your gun because your too weak and cannot shoot? A game when you die you get kicked from the server forever because you died? That is not fun.

    I agree with D3vin. If the game were realistic then.. you could only play once.. then if you die you can't play again.. Americas Army when it comes to shooting is a little on the real side.. but that game is waay to annoying.. I love CS:S for the fact that it is NOT Real.. America's Army is mostly a campfest.

    Well. The ragdolls get stuck in doors and flop up and down. And really... does it matter? It's just a game, enjoy it.
