Just got a new pc with Vista 32-bit hp and decided to install Q4. When i Installed it a message came up indicating a known compatibility issue so i downloaded the latest patch (bet-141) and set it to run as admin and to run in xp sp2 compatibility. Seemed fine on the first cutscene for about a minute at which point the game froze and i had to quit to desktop via task manager where i found a message saying Quake 4 has stopped working.
My system spec is C2D e6600 @2.996 ghz, 4gb ddr2 pc6400 @900 mhz and bfg geforce 8800gtx 768 mb
Any help at all will be much appreciated and sorry about my grammer.
Just take a program to allow you switching the running system when you are logged in...
Well i think that won't resolve the problem, the only way to fix that is take another HD, put XP in it and all the games you can't run on vista.
There's a program called GLDirect which reroutes OpenGL into DirectX. It comes in a free limited demo. I would suggest trying it and buying it if it works. It's pretty cheap and is only going to help later on if it works.
I have no clue if it will work properly on Vista. Your video card should be able to handle the pixel shader conversion mode without any trouble as long as nothing broken comes up as supported.
For future reference 2 all i tried it in win xp compatibility and also selected run as administrator. Markworth thanks for the suggestion ill try that next month as im on i download limit ( :( ) which ive already exceeded for this month. i also managed to get it to run for about 1 min longer (up till the point the first enemy appears) before it exited to desktop. Btw, isnt prey on a modified version of the same engine? if so how come i can run that fine? i think ill see if i can find my copy of d3 and test that out. F****** vista. :P thank for your advice so far guys
Well, knowing that it is Microsoft, not until the problem becomes very serious. Give it 3-4 month's. Though chances are, all these compatability and driver's issues won't be sorted for up to 6 month's.
Lol. I have Vista.
I can't even install the game :S
This is what I do:
-Getting up from my wheelchair.
-Pick up the Quake 4 cover
-Open the DVD room
-Place the DVD into the DVD room
-Closing the DVD room
-Getting this Autodrive or what the heck it's called.
-I'm getting pissed off.
-Once again, getting up from the wheelchair.
-Brakes the key-board/screen
Well, my answer is: Nope... Quake ain't working here...
