Hello there. I am in the middle of getting a Dell notebook, and the type I've ordered can only go up to the nVIDIA GeForce Go 7900 GS in terms of graphics cards. Now, I'd like to know this: I run CSS at 1024x768 (I have a 5500FX) and it generally gets the job done. I get around 40 FPS with only Textures turned up to high. Will this new card make my day? CSS and maybe UT2004 are the only graphics-intense games I will be playing on the notebook. So, how good will it be? Can I get an FPS range, or the options settings? Thanks.

Dells are all I can afford that have a financing option. I'm lucky to even consider getting a new computer.

I am heavily considering BF2142 as well. Somebody must know something about what this card can do.

The Gateway notebooks have no customizing option for their graphics cards. That's what I'm focused mainly on here. Also, your friend must've received a deal, because notebooks don't come that cheap.

I have wanted a laptop for six years now, and it would be a good thing to have for trips and such. I'm tired of getting desktop computers; some gaming while away from home sounds ideal to me. Dell has the cheapest financing options in equality to their computer strength. I see no better option (except Alienware, which doesn't finance Canadians).

Precisely. I don't know much about video cards in terms of the difference between them, if that isn't obvious enough.

It may be a GS, but it's still later 7 series. Of course it's going to ace CSS. : /

Don't diss Dell, I've got one and it's the best computer I've ever owned... for now.

I've got a Dell Inspiron XPS Gen 2, brand new when it came out. It has an Nvidia Geforce Go 6800 Ultra, and I can max out F.E.A.R. with next to none lag. Same with CS:S. If I have a good ping, I'll have awesome framerate.

The XPS series are about one thousand dollars more with the same options, and instead of a 7900 GS they go to 7950 GTX. I don't consider that to be worth the extra grand.

I wonder if by the time I amass enough money, if tablet PCs might be good enough for mapping.

    OH MY GODD
I GOT A NVIDIA BFG 7800 AND I USED TO BE A POOR SOUL LIKE YOU WITH A FX 5500

as much as I hate dell man you have to upgrade..
I was getting around 25-40 fps with the 5500 and now with the 7800 (cuase i only have an AGP slot on my motherboard) im getting from 150-250 fps
    dude
how could you even ask that question
    KURPLAH
anyway make sure your processor can handle the 7900 my 7800 needed a 3.0 to give me full framerate
and i needed a new powersupply but i guess that wont matter with a laptop...
the 7000 series are very good
    go for it
