I realized awhile back the shadows in CSS look horrid even on high, why is that? is there anyway of making them better?

    I think alot of the way they look has to do with your vid settings like brightness and that.I think they look good personally

    Nah man have you ever really tookin a look at how blocky they are?.. I remeber back in the day they looked awesome, and I mean this is way back when they only had 1 model for the Ts and Cts, and noone knew what HDR was.. what did they lower the polys or somthing

    Maybee all of the new coded features have something to do whit it. maybe to get the cpu usage down. i dont know. maybee its just your eyes :p

    Nah, They are perfect.
    It's said you can't see your own shadow tho.
    That you can see when you spec someone in first-person view.
    And see your self in a camera.
    But I doubt valve will fix that.

    Yes, Valve is making them 'better', if you've seen the trailer for EP2, the one with the cave and the vortigaunt, you'll notice that the flashlight casts the shadow relative to the direction it faces unlike currently, where the shadow faces the same direction no matter what lighting situation it's in. I read a recent interview in which Mr. Newell says that they are continue keeping the multiplayer games up to date for multicore-processors, like when they updated the CSS version of there engine to enable phong and rim-lighting, like in EP1 and DoDS. Here's hoping, but don't get your hopes up.

    I wish they would revert back to when their was only the ST6 and the Phoenix. FUCK all this new stuff.

    Its not new, its from the earlier versions of CS.

    The 1.0 beta had all four on each team i think.

    And it didnt have DWP either -.-

    Yes, the shadows are blocky, but they are real-time. (Real-time being it matches the model it's from, but is not changed due to lighting).

    I mean, I can put a custom W_Model in, and the shadow shows up.

    Guys
    even though im not as old as all of you
    im an oldtimer with CS games
    played with that black screen when the only good games that were out were team fortress and CS
    hah
    it was amazing
    good times

    The shadows in my opinion of course have never been good but the gameplay itself has always been amazing for its time

    (I myself dont care much for model quality and will set all my settings to low if im not getting really high FPS on a map =D)
