Phong shading is a technique that increases the exposure coefficient around the edges of an object, and usually makes it look more "glossy".

    Hope that explains it.

Phong is another way of reflection. Normally we use ref.maps. This is the easiest way. Than we have "Phong". Phong is much more "high-poly" and looks more realistic.

    It's a lighting technique.
As you can see here, it gives the object more of an "HDR glow," only no HDR is needed.

Ohh thats pretty cool.I read the thing Spectro linked me too and it sounds pretty interesting. But was this something that just recently got "discovered" or what it that Steam itself was preventing user to use this?

Phong was introduced in DOD:S, and I suppose people just recently decided to put it onto other models.

More like people just figured out how to put it in their weapons and player models.
It still needs work, though. There's a way to only apply phong to certain parts of the skin that people have yet to figure out.

I tried reading some stuff about phong shading but I couldn't understand what any of it meant. :(

(I mean I couldn't understand how to do it)
