Help! I recorded cool demo's in source but how the hell do you convert them to avi or mpeg? I saw on some other forum that you can use fraps for in game recording, but it suck! Isn't there any other way? Any help would be kick A$$!

He wants the demos CONVERTED. You can't open up a demo file in Windows Media Player and start watching it.

Use fraps, or create a script which takes a screenshot of everyframe. You'd then download a program like Videomach and compile them together, but this was before any program like Fraps or Gamecam came out.

I've got a full version of FRAPS (I actually bought it) and I was wondering why my FPS is so crappy when I play using record?? I'm putting FRAPS to take a video at 30FPS, half-size (Full-size also does this). It goes at like 5FPS and crap.. Here are my PC Specs:

    Pentium 4, 3.00GHz (Probably this)
    2GB RAM
    7800GT (XFX)

Woah it shouldn't be that low. If you set it at 30 FPS in fraps it should work, never seen this problem before. In game did you do fps_max "xxx"?

My fps_max is set at 300.. I'm still getting uber low FPS..What the heck.. If I get the time, I'll post up a short clip of me playing CS:S with the settings I've got.

I'll run it at half-size. If it runs nicely, I'll go to full. Also, I'll use my recommended settings (low settings don't help me on this).

    9:50PM PST
Ok, I created the .avi file. Now I need a program so I can edit the movie so I can cut out all the crap in it.. And my lowest FPS on that was 5, highest was 32 (happened like 2 times). My average FPS was around 11-15. Like I said, I need a program that can edit the movie file. My Windows Movie Maker isn't working (Shouldn't have trusted that crashing POS anyway).

Damnit. After watching the clip for review, it actually looks like it's near 25-30 FPS. Some parts are laggy, but that may be my computer loading the video (the HD is apparently working while I'm viewing it). So maybe it actually does play 30 FPS on mine. That's a good sign I guess. The prob was that my game itself was running at 5 FPS.. The video was running on half-size.

I just realized (Noob = I), I could've just recorded a demo while I pwn noobs (it only drops like 1-10FPS depending on your comp) and then just play the demo while having record.. Damn I'm dumb rofl.

This question has been answered about 10 billion times so you should really use google for it but ill be nice and give u a hint what to look for.

just like in cs 1.6 u have some console commands u can use. someone said download a script which is easier and u can find it at www.moviemakers.nu but you can do it manually while you playback your demo. If you want medium-low quality use fraps, if you want great quality, use integrated startmovie feature, which will make many bmp images depending on the fps given so lets say, startmovie clip 30 will give you 30 bitmap images named clip001 clip002 and so on till 30 for every second, im not sure if thats correct synthax for source but thats how it is on cs. In source, i think that default file types are tga. (targa format). next thing u need after u caputred those frames, is a program sorta like video mach, to put them together, it works great and its free functional. once your done with that youll have a big a$$ avi file, which you will need to compress . for best qualityi suggest using nics xvid compressor with settings to 1st pass quality set to 90. any other help you may find at www.moviemakers.nu or www.csflicks.net

.demo file is not a video like .avi or wmv. Its just a recording of the camera position and the buttons pressed. Everything else is just as normal. Run in the source engine, unless ur Windows media player has a Valves Source engine plugin it will not be able to run it, just get fraps.
