I just built myself a computer this past summer and for some reason CS:S dosent run as good as D3 ..I can run D3 at like medium settings really really well.. but CS:S lags a bit in any graphics situation.. but basically my problem is these games both lag, CSS more sio though...
my specs are:
2 GHZ - 533 FSB (upgrading next week)
gecube ati radeon 9600 pro - 256 MB 8x AGP
512 ddr pc 2100 (upgrading next week)
Also I wanted to ask if this lag could be my video card or is it my ram or CPU? (which I am upgrading very soon).. anyone have an idea where the problem mostly lies?.. I think its the ram becasue its low end DDR ... It cant be the video card right?.. what do you guys think?.. is my card good enough to get high end graphics with D3 and CS:S? or is it something else which is causing this lag..?
so if I were to use ddr 400 ram on a 533/400 FSB CPU (not sure exactly what it is I think its 533..) and if I didnt set the frequencey of the ram of the ddr 400.. would my mobo blow up or anything like that?
Basically can I get ddr 400 before I buy a new cpu and will it work?.. (even if it dosent run at that ddr 400 speed)
because I wanna first get some ddr pc3200 (400) ram before I upgrade cpu .. little bit at a time I always say :)
And also.. "significant performace increase".. what do you mean by that exactly.. any idea of the range of FPS I could gain???
a new/faster cpu will prolly give u quite a significant performace increase. getting 1 gig of system ram wont hurt either. the max u can get with a 433MHz system bus/ 133MHz fsb cpu is DDR-333/pc 2700 ram, u can get DDR-400 if you wanna set the ram freq at 333 then overclock the front side bus then ur ram can possibly get to 400MHz as long as ur cpu can handle it
The 9600Pro is pretty weak by todays standards, with the 9800Pro's and nvidia equivalants getting cheaper and cheaper.
