Well, I have been searching HL2 fan sites, etc. and I can't find the system requirements for HL2. I have a ****ty system that can't even run Splinter Cell: Pandora Tommorrow so I was wondering if my computer could run HL2 and if it couldn't, how much I need to upgrade too. I have a Pentium 4, 2.4 GHz, GeForce 4 MX 420, 256mb RDRam. I'm planning to upgrade to a ATi Radeon 9600 XT and 512mb additional memory but it costs a lot, and I also wanted to know if it met Recommended System Specs if I did upgrade.

I have a car and a job also and I'm just 17. I was just saying it's harder for people under 18 to find a job.... Well, where I live it is anyways.

But it's alright for parents to do that because no places hire people 14-16 years old really. Most places want 18+.

    3GHz processor (Pentium 4 or AthlonXP/64)
    1024MB RAM
    256MB GeForce FX or Radeon (97, 98)

Just go with that and you're fine.

Now the only thing you'll need to worry about is finding hardware that's cheap. :p
    Just keepin' it fresh.

I wish I was rich, but I'm not. The only reason why I said that is because I have a new computer because I have a job. Maybe you'll have one someday too!

yea, with physics and AI intese games like doom3 and half-life2 that both use lots of cpu power for AI / Physics, a fast cpu is needed. at least 2.4GHz for pentium and AMD 2400+

Posted by H3ADHUn73R>you BOUGHT a 1.47 gghz procesor???????? WHY??????? What did it run, like 10 bucks? Well sorry for the flame but, you might get crappy fps. Because it doesn't matter if you have a ton of ram and super duper vid card, it will still run slow on that kind of proccesor. You might be ok sine all your other stats are so good.

    god damn it.

    about the FX cards...

The low end FX cards do support Pixel Shader 2.0 1.4 and 1.1, but they are FREAKING SLOW... thats why I recommend at least a FX 5700 from Nvidia, and a 9500/9600pro-XT from ATI

    FX 5200 = SUCKS
    FX 5500 = SUCKS
    FX 5600 = SUCKS
FX 5700 = about the same as 9600pro/xt
    FX 5800 = too load - discontinued
    FX 5900 = good
    FX 5950 = good
FX 6800 = awesome -requires lots of power

    ATI

Radeon 9500 = real good, it has 8 pixelpipelines but discontinued
Radeon 9600pro/xt = good, not as good as 9500 pro
Radeon 9700 pro = real good... discontinued i think
Radeon 9800 Pro = real good
Radeon 9800 XT = slightly better than pro
    Radeon X800 series = awesome

I also recommend u have 1gig of ram, or the games may be kind of choppy, like UT2k4 was when all i had was 512mb.

    I have P4 2.72GHZ
9600XT - i get THE FULL VERSION of HL2 for free

    ffs

The minimum system spec is currently targeted at a 700 MHz PC with 128 MB RAM and a DX6-level video card, eg: TNT2 etc, meaning you won't need a supercomputer to run Half-Life 2 but don't expect to see reflective water, dynamic shadows and bump-mapped textures.

The game running at reasonable detail eg: 25/40 fps, requires a 1600Mhz cpu, 256 mb ram, GeForce4 Ti or Ati Radeon card.

In real life you need the best from a new game so I would recommend a 2000 cpu, or higher 512 mb ram or higher, GeForce4 Ti4800 128 ddr or ATI Radeon 9600 pro.
IF you've got the money ATI Radeon 9800 pro. or Geforce FX5900 ultra
The more power the better but not essential with this game.

and i hope that they are right!

Here's basically what I came up with (as general minimum system requirements, and which I absolutely DID NOT get from the HL2 leak).
    • 1GHz processor (Pentium III or higher, Athlon or higher)
    • 256MB RAM
    • GeForce Ti or FX series video card, ATi Radeon 9500
    • Roughly 4GB of HDD space

In all seriousness, I have an AthlonXP at 1.90GHz, and even just the e3 2003 demo maps take a good 25 seconds to load with 512MB RAM. If you really want to play the game, and I mean play - here's what you're gonna want:
    • 2GHz processor (Pentium 4 or AthlonXP/64)
    • 1024MB RAM
    • 256MB GeForce FX or Radeon (97, 98)

you're on teh right track. if youg et those upgrades then you'll be able to play it fine.
but make sure you buy smart. find a friend that can get it cheap. or buy it in bulk and sell the rest.

All you really need to upgrade is your graphics card and Memory. But you said you're going to do that. So you should be fine once you've done that.
