Hey, first of all, I would like to say that this is my first post in this forum. I just downloaded CL last night, and although having the full Steam version of CS 1.6, managed to get it working fine after some random downloads (please update the installation guide on the main page for Steam users. The only way I could get it to work was downloading CS1.5 full and installing it to Steam's HL directory, but this should work for everyone.) Anyways, I love the concept of the mod because I've always enjoyed realistic weaponary, and being able to play through HL with CS weapons is just right up my alley. Thanks to the developers for sacrificing their time for this wonderful project.
Anyways, the reason I'm really posting here is because I don't believe that the hard difficulty is difficult enough in standard CL. I only have played for an hour or two so far, but it quickly became apparent to me that CL was even easier, much easier, than HL. Even on hard difficulty, it is no problem to get an MP5 about 10 minutes after you start killing stuff. This is just Too Good. In HL, you didn't manage to get automatic weapons until you encountered marines, and for good reason. Now, I realize that there are other people on these forums who have released packs greatly increasing the difficulty, for example, of marines and assassins, but this requires a lot of time and effort. I also realize that maybe later in the game (Xen obviously) the game gets much harder, as I haven't been there yet. However, from what I've seen and read, it doesn't look that way.
I propose that only a few, simple balancing changes need to be made. First of all, on hard difficulty, you should only be able to carry two primary weapons, a sidearm, knife and nades. This better conforms with the "realism" aspect of the game coming from CS, but also just makes sense. It forces you to more closely evaluate your weaponary instead of having access to everything. Secondly, ammo maxes (and maybe grenade maxes) should be lower than in lower difficulties so that conserving ammo can become an issue. Thirdly, the money system should be changed so that you get far less money per kill. You should not be able to own an automatic weapon when all you're meeting is headcrabs. Now, I know next-to-nothing of programming, but it seems to me that these changes would be relatively easy to implement and could add a much greater degree of challenge to the game. Please consider implementing these propositions into a future patch.
The Silent Beep strikes again.

In response to the above mentioned post:
Counter-Life doesn't make the game any easier in terms of offensive opposition. The Default skill file included with the Counter-Life installation is exactly as the original Half-life states.
There are no changes. The only difference is that your weapons ( As a player ) are much more powrerful then the default HL weapons. The enemy unit's life and damage is based from those default weapons. They are not based from Counter-Strike.
So, as you can see the game would get easier in a sense because Counter-Life weapons are based on the princible of deathmatch and teamplay vs Human Oppoenents.
That's why I have released packs that coenside with Counter-Life beta releases to improve on exactly what you have just stated.
The Packs that I make are not some randomly contributed compilation that someone just cooked up. I am on the Counter-Life team and I know the mod from the belly of the beast to the tip of it's horned pecker.
I would suggest that you download the latest CLHD Pack when it is uploaded to the servers. The current version does increase the difficulty of play considerably. The pack changes many of the feartures in Counter-Life and is an update of sorts.
However, the current version listed is still not the latest as I am working on a much improved version that will be released along side ( or included with ) the Counter-Life 6.0 beta.
CL 6.0 beta will introduce client side weapons and new enemy units for multiplayer cooperative play. It will feature dozens of tweaks and changes to enemy units including a new armor system. Numermous changes will take place with weapon RPM and accuracy, added weapons from Counter-Strike Condition Zero. ( Galil & FAMAS )
We are also hoping to introduce working player Flashbangs that actually effect the enemy AI, blinding and deafening them for a short period of time.
There are so many changes that are comming off the drawing board lately I cannot even go over all of them. All I can say is that if you like Counter-Life now - You're in for a hell of a treat come it's next release.
Stay tuned for future updates and CLHD compilation packs.
