Delete VMT Lines instead of VMT Files

I once heard that to get rid of the "Server is enforcing simple material" crap was to delete the VMT lines of determined file, but instead of it, what I end up doing is deleting the file and those pink and black textures of the death appear. So I'd like to know how do people actually delete it or what program do they use and how to use it, please
Uh? Why would you delete the vmt files lol. Consistency errors happen because of certain vmt lines, you just need to delete those. It's mostly trial and error but you can use my mods as a guide since the world models don't have consistency errors. Also the vmts have to start with "VertexLitGeneric" I believe.
You don't even need to delete the lines. Just add // to the beginning of the lines and they would not be read by the engine.
My skins had a $Lightwarp option which caused consistency errors, people reported that disabling them fixed that. So I think .vmts that use extra shaders or funky stuff might get flagged.
