Great Way to Improve HL2 Character Textures - A Forum Thread for Half-Life 2

A possible way to improve HL2 character textures

I've been looking online at ways to improve textures and came across this little script for Gimp uploaded to the Skyrim SE Nexus. https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/16168?tab=description&BH=1

The way it works is that it uses two different textures that's loaded in the same window for Gimp on different layers. Top one is the details or High Fidelity while the bottom layer is the Low Fidelity that you want to gain the details for it.

Now you might asking yourself, what can it do for Half-Life 2? Well, it's actually pretty simple. Cinematic Mod despite it's negative reputation its gained, older versions of the mod gave us some new facemaps for the characters with nice detail. I had the idea of using the plugin to take the detail from the Cinematic Mod version of a character's textures (In the example below, I use Father Grigori.) and have it added onto an A.I Upscale of the Valve textures thrown through Gigapixel.

And the improved version of his textures made from the details of CM 2.12 Grigori.

I personally feel that this could help with bringing the characters up to date in terms of details without sacrificing the original face.

What do you guys think?
