Your favourite music

A Forum Thread for GameBanana

Would like to ask what music you prefer. But unlike one previous thread - I would like to ask it a bit differently:

1. What song do you personally count as the greatest one you've ever heard;
2. What band or singer in your opinion is the best for you or in general;

As for me, my answers are:

1. Greatest song ever: Judas Priest - Sentinel.

(Yes, I mostly listen to Motley Crue, Guns'n'Roses, Def Leppard and alike, I have only 5-6 of Judas's songs in my play list. However Sentinel is the song that turned my world apart when I first heard it and I count it the greatest Heavy Metal song ever written and performed both by text and music.)

2. The greatest band/singer for me - Frank Sinatra

(I listen to rock/metal music for 90% of time, as you could've understood from my releases, but Sinatra's music is something absolutely special for me. His songs are quintessential form of real gentleman music. They are so ellegant and marvelous, that I think I can listen to them forever. Frank - is the best singer that this world have ever had in my opinion.)

    Very hard to pick a single song, but my favourite artist is without a doubt John Edmond.
    If I have to pick a track to introduce his work to others, though, I tend to go with Chayira.
    His music varies quite widely so it only represents a small part of it, but between the folksy stuff and the kind-of-very politically charged stuff I guess I'd conclude this is one of the more approachable options, and it's definitely in my top 5 regardless

    Here's his 2 main albums for whoever might be interested ( and has 4.5 hours to spare )

    Some of my favourite songs are Big Gun & Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap by AC/DC, I Want It All and Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen, and Baby Come Back by Player. Pre-21st Century music is honestly really good.

    Hey, you like metal, I recommend listening to Horrendous - Idol. Technical thrash metal.
    That LP is insanely good.

    Music that moved me the most and made me think about it the most is what sticks to me for the longest time. 10,000 Days (Wings for Marie Part 2) is my favorite song of all time. Its message and story are beautiful and Maynards wordy lyrics coupled with Tools expertly made instrumentals setting the mood truly makes it a near-spiritual experience. I wanted to cry from how beautifully written the lyrics are.

    The band 'La Dispute' is a Michigan rock band with the lyricist Jordan Dreyer. His lyrics are very wordy and poetic. Jordan really likes to tell stories in his songs. Beautiful, sad, heartbreaking and thoughtful. It's very hard to instantly like them because Jordans 'singing' (he really just yells and speaks) is what makes or breaks it for people. My favorite songs from them are 'a Letter', Safer In The Forest/Love Song for Poor Old Michigan, Hudsonville MI 1956, The Most Beautiful Bitter Fruit and King Park (which is very tragic and well-told story).

    I could go on and on about the music I like.
    I'm going to B-hop my way out

    I couldn't ever decide on a single greatest song - I just happen to like heavy metal music a lot. Especially thrash, and a little bit of death (both the band and the genre).

    But one band that has now stuck as my definitive favorite is Pantera. They pioneered the characteristic groovy metal sound of the 90s, which was also later typical of other metal bands in that same decade.
