Is there any efficient way to add skins into HL2/ep1/ep2 mods? I used to be able to just put the skin models/mats etc into the mod directory but as of recently that's just broken ANY mods I do it with, making them crash when loading any map.
Anyone have any insight? I've tried modifying the gameinfo of the mods I want to use with custom skins, but they've had varying results, ranging from it working perfectly to not reading the hl2/episodes custom folders at all.
To clarify, this is with mods in Steam's sourcemods folder.
I haven't been able to get mods like this to work for a while now for both Half-Life and Half-Life 2. I don't know a fix, but I'm fairly certain that Valve broke this intentionally, as they are definitely aware of it at this point.
If you want to mod mods, you need to manually replace the files. You can't do any custom folder stuff. If the mod uses custom models with custom model names (eg. mod has combine soldier model name as combine_enemy.mdl instead of combine_soldier.mdl) I don't really know what to do there. You can always try renaming the models you want to use (eg. take combine_soldier.mdl and rename to combine_enemy.mdl) you also have to include the textures for the models too.
