I don't bother with it. Source is easier to work with and more capable. Maybe people still do it for the challenge of trying to get a modern model to look decent in a 20 year old game engine. Just my guess.
If that isn't enough, it's just because of fun. Honestly, if mapping weren't fun for me, I would've abandoned it as soon as I had started it.
CS 1.6 is pretty easy to mod and it's very good for people with ancient computers and laptops (like mine xd).
And if that weren't enough... It's not dead for the same reason people still play and mod the first Quake and DooM games. And they're all old. CS 1.6 isn't nearly as popular as it used to be 10 years ago, but it has a nice legacy, and we can still find new generations of players as well as modders for it. It's just a very good game.
The community isn't dead, I guess is just that isn't too active like before due to the people that is busy with studies/work, I am an example of it. Why I mod this ancient game? Because I want to see how good I can be, and one day, when I stop modding, to look in the past and say... "wow, all the work I spent on this really worth it". Also, I love to have competition, it's not that I want to be better than anybody else, is just that... I do this with passion, and I try to demonstrate it, competition is motivation. Keep this in mind, if there is nobody to impress with my work, or nobody to compete with, then I will stop, hope that never happens. That's why I need you here <3 Oh, and greetings to all the other modders that inspire me to keep submitting (rarely) my stuff.
Quake had the same hype and modders that made such great mods when the game first released .. But when HL1 released 2 years after, everyone moved there projects and stuff for Goldsrc for more updated engine .. They found it very modders friendly so they foxed on this engine alone till Source came out ..
Nowadays, both Source and goldsrc share almost the same modding community .. and by the release of HL1 SDK they gave the old 1997 engine more components to make it better. Some actually turned out very nice like Sven Co-op, Xash3D, JackHammer, and Half-Life: Arrangement
It's nostalgia .. That's why Classic offensive was developed in the first place tho
Well games are fun, so modding them should be fun 2. About dead yes it is, when section is run by garbge uploads with no original creativity at all. I've seen so many same recolos that section looks like fuken rainbow. But i also ask does anybody acutally uses my or other's stuff? Like really who da fuk plays 1.6 daily or regulary? People blind/Schiff, witch is very correct, with little no hard feedback and never improve... Salty kids, over 2 proud madonas personas etc, etc, xd.))
I compile shit for fun and collect oldies because I like collecting stuff. Lots of unreleased stuff in my HDD. Unreleased because I tried to get all 1.5 arms stuff to 1.6 arms but don't have time. Maybe they will be released as is.
Well, i have a shitty pc and i want to play a good FPS game i can run CS 1.6 but the graphic was awful for today games so i decide to make it look a bit better and there is a lot of people like me but cant do modding so by sharing mode here can help them to have a good mod too :D sharing is a good thing :D
one more thing, CS 1.6 are playable on Android devices so it will amazing playing FPS games on your phone with your own model and map :D
I'm addicted to FPS game. So far the best is Counter Strike. To be honest I want to play CS:GO. But I have potato laptop. So the only CS that my laptop can run is CS 1.6 & CS:CZ. To satisfy my dream & addiction on CS:GO, that's why I created CSGO skin-like. If someday I have more money & manage to buy decent PC, totally I will move to CS:GO (might create skin for CS:GO).
