Is Steam efficiently safe from recent ransomware?

A Forum Thread for Steam

I guess most of us realise about the recent WannaCry or "WanaCrypt0r 2.0” ransomware is spreading through email and website.

I wasn't fully alert until yesterday when I heard about it I all over the internet and at my 14th May local newspaper stating that my country is one of the 100 countries affected by this ransomware. I guess shit is getting serious.

Info said that avoid online purchase, avoid online bank transaction and avoid opening unfamilar email.

Therefore, does that means that it is not safe to buy games from Steam, Origin, Uplay, etc for current time?? We are gonna miss the summer sales.

    I guess the same things.

It's the worst virus in world history, and now this kind of virus had been spreading around the globe.

Around +50 countries around the globe had been affected to this virus. They are attacking America, Asia, and Europe.

We need to be careful to this threatening virus.

I hope this informative for you, guys.

Well if you're truly afraid to transact money online you could buy gift cards, no?

Anytime I buy anything online I use a prepaid debit card. And usually keep shopping until I've covered the total amount.

Or is this a new terminator type of virus you can't avoid?

Well actually i dont think that Steam gets affected by some viruses or ransomware.
The worst problem for them would be probably this :
If some clever hackers get into some Steam Servers (For Updates or where the games are laying) and then they could probably attach a ransomware to idk a malicious update. Or they attach it to some popular games. But i dont think that this would happen because Steam is quite safe with that.
Anyway WannaCry is very big Ransomware but what the most people dont know it affected quite only the older OS's. Like Windows XP and so on. So mostly Win10 Users were safe. But they how i think gonna start some new attack wave.
And want the most people dont know its the fault of the National Security Agency (NSA) because they had this Ransomware and they knew where the security issue was but didnt tell anyone about it because they couldnt than use it on other governments..

And you definitly can avoid this Ransomware. Just dont be so stupid and open emails, documents or weblinks from unknown person or unknown firm's and so on. And be actual with the Windows Updates etc.
