Making weapon hud icons and crosshairs

A Forum Thread for Black Mesa

I am trying to make hud icons and crosshairs for black mesa weapons , but when I open the default texture files for them , all I see is just blank white texture. So , how to make custom hud icons?

Well , all these crosshair and hud mods work on both.

For the retail version. Sorry to bring this back up, but it seems to be true that the vtfs for BMS(team) appear to be empty.

For example, "bms\materials\vgui\hud\crosshair_glock.vtf" when viewed in VTFedit displays an empty square. If you click on the resources tab, it shows 0 resources. Also, notice that the file is only 6k.

In contrast, "hl2\materials\vgui\hud\xbox_reticle.vtf" is 86k. In VTFedit, you would see the crosshair. The resources tab would show 3 resources.

I wonder if the crosshairs are stored somewhere else or rendered in some other way.

EDIT: I should also add that when I tried replacing "bms\materials\vgui\hud\crosshair_glock.vtf" with "xbox_hud.vtf", the game seemed to ignore it.
