Refracting glass doesn't work in Portal

So in videos of other folk playing the game, I clearly see that the glass refracts like it's supposed to. But when I play, the game seems to only use the backup texture. [(clicky)](https://38.media.tumblr.com/bab0730e6714c7de4082a17058a8c471/tumblr_ng72vzIBDX1rggdyko1_1280.png "") I've tried using my own refracting textures to see what it'd do, and it only reflects. That and it isn't see-through. Is there a way to fix this?

    Wait, I was being a dummy and looking at the wrong thing. It says I'm playing the game with my hardware DirectX being version 8, and my software DirectX being version 9.

    For refraction to work you need to make sure everything is set to DirectX 9
