The Gamergate Controversy....

A Forum Thread for GameBanana

title says alll.

with the fallout of the Quinnspiracy and the GamerGate reaction, what more can be done or happen? It's been known how much game review sites and "game journalism" has been corrupt but why lash out at the blatant corruption now? Not only that but the reactions of the game review sites only added more fuel to the fire of their censorship against the allegations of corruption, which further proved what we all have already knew... With the recent news that 4Chan has now succumbed to the pressure with Moot and 4Chan mods now censoring topics even related to the Quinnspiracy and gamergate, this leaves me with a few questions...... 1. Should action seriously be taken against Kotaku and other game review sites who have employed North-Korean style censorship of materials/media that bring the game journalism corruption to light or is it better to just ignore them, let them do what they want, but never trust them again? 2. Can the trust ever be rebuilt or will Kotaku and others simply fade away? 3. As said in the title, what more can be done or what more can happen in the aftermath of GamerGate?

    1. Of course we should take serious action against these pricks, because ignoring them is like not going to the doctor after finding a lump in your left testicle. If we don't do something about this and let these leftists continue perpetuating and pushing their socialist agenda, we will be seeing far more indie - and maybe even some AAA games - developer's creative freedom shunted. This doesn't just happen in videogames either... The gun community is under fire day-in and day-out by these same types of people who can't look at anything without putting on emotional eye-glasses. 2. Far as I know, even the most passionate of apologies shouldn't even call for any slight amount of forgiveness or rekindled trust, because if human history has taught us anything, it's that the most spiteful groups will go through any sort of lengths to save their own skins before going back to doing what got them in trouble in the fist place. They might say 'sorry' until they're blue in the face, but if it were up to me, there is no way in hell I'd let them go back to doing their "jobs", because they're like little kids who only want the world to change based on what they want, rather than suck it up and accept it the way it is. 3. Considering that 4chan of all places has buckled under the pressure of those communist landwhales, I've started to lose hope in this movement. The problem is that if we lose, it will be eons before we get another opportunity to uncover corruption not just in games journalism, but in the leftist community in general.

Nothing good will come of this, people with too much time on their hands feel like they need something to be angry about when their life is pretty fucking complete; that's mostly part 2 though, the failed integrity of game journalism will probably blow over soon enough.

The problem is that if we lose, it will be eons before we get another opportunity to uncover corruption not just in games journalism, but in the leftist community in general. In response to 1. true but we're dealing with Cronyism and Corruption within Gaming Journalism and not testicular tumors, but don't the gamers have the complete advantage considering that it's the gamers who feed the game developers who use the gamer money to give to game review sites? Considering that Gamers, like me and many others, are a large portion of the Game Economics cycle, gamers have an advantage to win but while the advantage is there, will speaking out against the corruption actually give results compared to simply starving dishonest game journalists and game developers/publishers who are the ones bribing the game journalists? I believe we should go with the old addage and "follow the money" and ultimately take it up with who's really responsible... The bribing game devs... In response to 2. I have to agree that saying sorry will probably have no real effect whatsoever, but I believe DOING something that shows you're sorry can go a longer way, maybe not fully rebuild the trust but it will rebuild the lost dignity and respect. in response to 3. the Left has always been about double-standards and exploiting them, that's no big surprise. Even with the loss of hope in the Gamergate movement, the good thing is that you know what's going on and you can avoid it, even if it's being swept under the rug or censored dictator-style by game review sites.

    > **Posted by Morsey** > > What are we talking about, here? http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/events/quinnspiracy http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/events/gamergate Basically a woman named Zoe Quinn used her sexuality to convince game journalists to help her market off her game called Depression Quest, which ignited the barrel of mistrust against gaming journalism and its long ongoing corruption with game devs and publishers. It's a massive controversy on the part that social justice warriors and feminists believe it's a misogynistic attack on Quinn even though she's already been proven to have done what she has done. The actions of Zoe Quinn sparked a backlash from gamers called GamerGate which a gamer movement to push for better integrity and honest video game journalism. The response by video game journalists and their companies were to censor anyone who talks about gamergate which added fuel to the fire. In response to and increasing influence from Social justice warriors and feminists, other websites like tumblr and twitter have been censoring gamergate topics as well.

Even with the loss of hope in the Gamergate movement, the good thing is that you know what's going on and you can avoid it, even if it's being swept under the rug or censored dictator-style by game review sites. I kinda agree with you on the idea of starving them economically, but only until GamerGate became a thing did people actually start taking that sort of initiative. Problem is that these journos have repeatedly found some alternate way of "earning" money, like how Zoe Quinn crashed Game Jam and started her own version of it with the donations page linking directly to her personal paypal, or how she fabricated events of getting mugged as a way to coax people into giving her pity money. Not only that, but they have spread everywhere now (especailly 4chan like I mentioned before). This means that many a site that you, me, or any well-meaning fella visits could be giving money to the SJWs directly or indirectly, and with the kind of connections they have, they won't have a problem sharing it to spearhead whatever they try to pull. Side note: I was using the tumor thing as metaphor for how the corrupt journos spread like a cancer because we haven't done anything until now.

She might as well be, because any discussion about GamerGate at all on any boards is shut down with extreme prejudice. This has even included (at times) discussions about SJWs and how they're a bunch of shit-sticks. There is literally a tweet out there from this prick boasting about being a 4chan mod, and another of him hanging out with Zoe Quinn.

    > **Posted by Kevinsk** > > Oh honey it's so much more than that lol! > > I'll give you a hint.... > > "**Sex, Lies, Scandal, and DLC**" But it's video games... It would make sense to care about a sex scandal if it involved a political or influential figure, but this was a hobbyist game developer. The fact that someone in the video game scene is receiving all of this heat for banging some guy(s) who held a slight bit of authority in the industry is just proof that there are a lot of "hardcore gamers" who take their passion a little too seriously. It's not like people are laundering tax money or employing slave labour here. I'm starting to side with whoever is calling out against _gamers_. There are too many examples of game junkies acting out of line that actually predate this whole news trend, all of which make it evident that the consumer side of the industry is constantly raising their standards, but not understanding that the companies who's games they're buying favour profit over earning neckbeards' respect.

Neckbeards aren't the only ones playing video games... You're missing the point. The point is the blatant corruption, cronyism, and lying that's occuring in gaming journalism and the rest of the Gaming industry. It's a serious thing because it can cross into the political boundary very easily... Zoe Quinn used sex to push her game and give it good false reviews... Who's to stop her from using sex to gain political influence and more? All she needs to do is fuck the right guy and, next thing you know, she's on the polls for governor, senator, rep, even president... It's not about how much sex she's having or who's it with, it's about how she's using it... She's practically no different from college women who fuck their professors for a passing grade... The entire point of gamergate is for journalistic integrity, stopping corruption, and the cronyism between game developers/publishers and journalists.... Which you seem to miss completely. Do I need to remind you of EA's consistent bribing of game review sites to give their bad games a good score?

I'd like to think gamers are smarter than this, they seem that way if following any argumentation; like most wars, there's more to it than just one thing, this is a thing that's been brewing for a while now and has finally exploded, so now it's either pick a side or look for cover. So far GB has been doing well, probably because no one seems to care anything for anything GB does other than be a mod directory, so the whole editorial business seems to stay out of the crosshairs; but when they come for you, you'll know it, like the Escapist DDoSed by the anti-gaters.

    > **Posted by Major Yelle** > > I have no idea what any of this is, but I know that if there's a site you don't like, the best thing to do is stop visiting it. Zoe Quinn made a game called Depression Quest and in order to garner publicity for it she made false accusations against WizardChan, a message board for male virgins, saying that they raided her, made phone calls and jerked off into the phone when she answered, as well as being harassed by them. All of this happened because she got her game onto Greenlight and gamers are sexist/anti-feminist. So she took to Twitter and posted about all the harassment and terrible things that these male gamers have done to which gathered a huge amount of attention. People started to console her and point fingers at the gaming community saying it's filled with nothing but misogynistic assholes. This gained a lot of attention around the web as it should because it's somehow become a fact that gamers don't like women and Wizardchan is a cesspool that breeds nothing but that. This started a whole shit storm amongst feminists and social justice warriors (SJW's) and they started siding with Zoe. All of this attention started a huge debate that gamers are scum and mistreat women. Justice needs to be served and these disgusting people need to be shown the error of their ways, however, it was just two people who made some rude comments about Zoe and women that started all of this. No direct contact had been made with Zoe Quinn by anyone in order to harass her, no e-mails sent by them to her have been shown, no data of anything of hers shows that a raid happened. Yet, people with a lot of push in not only the gaming community but in the feminist movement as well took her side and started spouting bullshit with zero proof that anything actually happened. This would bring up a broader topic for debate which is sexism in the gaming community. This is stupid because it has nothing to do with the gaming community. They're throwing this judgment onto gamers when we didn't start this shit in the first place. Anyways that's basically the Quinnspiracy which is old news since it was a fucking year ago. Now the real problem! After all that shit happened Zoe's BF Eron published a lot of private chats, tweets and, IMs between Zoe and him. This revealed that Zoe Quinn exchanged sexual favors with big name journalists from multiple sites including Kotaku in order to get her game the best reviews possible. You've said >But it's video games... It would make sense to care about a sex scandal if it involved a political or influential figure, but this was a hobbyist game developer.
