Problem with getting my own skin to work, need help!
So I've been spending a little over an hour now creating a skin for Insurgency (old game I know, but I find it fun) only to find out that it will not work, at all. It's a simple face retexture for one of the Insurgents, but I just can't seem to get it to load ingame. All that shows up are the pink and black checkers where the texture should be. I have named the file correctly. Can anyone tell me if there is any specific .vtf type I should save it as? Or what should go in the .vmt folder? I usually don't use .vmts, and it does not seem to help the problem whether I use one or not. Are there any specific parameters I should follow?
If anyone with skype or steam wants to really help me out, please private message me with your account name and after I add you we could figure this out. I could also send you the file for you to fix up yourself, but since it's only a joke skin of my friend I don't plan on publishing it and there would be no place for me to give you credit. I also have no means of compensating you for your time if you do, so if you're feeling fairly kind just let me know. Thanks!
If it's just a reskin make sure the name is exactly the same. The purple/black square texture is been given because the texture couldn't be found meaning or the VTF is not found or the path in the VMT is not correctly defined. VMT's are very important so make sure their parameters are correctly setup for the texture's you're creating.
But if it's a default reskin from the game you shouldn't concern about it to much though as the vmt should work already after all.
If you can't figure it out I can help you via teamviewer if you want.
PM me if you need more help than the above post.
Seemed that the exporter he used for GIMP saved it in a 7.4 version that wasn't supported by Insurgency making the texture unable to read and causing in the purple/black checkered texture.
Either way problem solved.
