Need help with outer space skyboxes - A Forum Thread for GameBanana.

I'm looking for a program to render an outer space landscape (sorry if that's the wrong word), so i can make a skybox out of it for a map that i'm planning. If there is one, at least leave me a link with a tutorial so i can learn how to use it. Here are some pics with examples of what i am looking for: [1]( ""), [2]( ""), [3]( "") Thanks ;)

There are several ways to achieve your goal of creating a space scenery to use later as a skybox. ### Terragen Terragen is an excellent terrain generator and very easy to use. I used it extensively some 10-12 years ago to generate custom skyboxes for my Goldsrc maps. Although its main purpose is to generate natural terrain from Earth, it can be tweaked and manipulated to simulate space/other planets scenery. Terragen can be found here and a full documentation with user created content/tutorials can be found here ### Bryce Another excellent 3D landscape generator although a bit more complex. Bryce can be downloaded here A video tutorial on how to create an outer space landscape with Bryce can be found here ### Photoshop If you own Photoshop and know your way around it, then you can use it to generate your custom space scenery, and arrange it at a second phase into a skybox. This page has 20 different Photoshop space tutorials to cover every aspect of your scenery. Lastly, you might need this program called skypaint. This is basically a paint tool for creating and editing 3D, seamless, 360° panoramic images, after you generate them using one of the previous mentioned methods. This will help you make sure that the final skybox is correctly rendered (RT, LF, DN...files are in correct sequence) and that the sky does not have visible seams on the edges. Hope this helps and good luck Will2k
